Should the Saints draft QB Shedeur Sanders if he falls to #9?

Let's take an honest look at the 2019 LSU Tigers and 2024 Colorado Buffaloes OUTSIDE of the quarterback position. This ain't putting one over the other as both elevated their teams. In 2 seasons, LSU went from 9-4 to a title and Colorado went from 1-11 to 9-4.
Point taken...but he can do it without the douchey-ness...that's all I'm saying. I don't deny the talent...its there, but this is beyond basic cocky-ness.

Soapbox moment

This is my rub with this generation, the whole "shut up - look at my watch" thing. Its as if he perceives his entire worth in his posessions as opposed to his accomplishments

- all of them (not all but a good chunk) just want :poop: witout accomplishing :poop: and they think that because they have :poop: it means that they're something. I blame the internet.

/soapbox off

Would someone PLEASE get these kids off Joe's lawn?

Yep. If you want arrogant, go look at Joe Burrow in his senior year in college. He knew he was good and wasn't afraid to tell anyone about it, but we called it swag instead of arrogance. Pointing to his ring finger, smoking cigars after the Championship game, etc. Often times we call in arrogance if we don't like the player but swagg if we like the player.

I don't know Sanders so maybe he's a giant arrogant butt crevasse, but I think it's just as likely that he is just like every other star college athlete with a NIL deal.
I want arrogance in my QB1. And if he's got an arrogant support staff, bring them along. What makes one arrogant is high expectation from themselves. We want someone that expects themselves to be great and would be devastated if they fall short. So they try harder than anyone not to fail, because the feeling of failing is way more negatively powerful than the joy of success. The key for the Saints is to make sure that Sanders' talent at least is in the same realm as his ego. And if it is, put him in coach.

While that’s an impressive accomplishment, the Buffalos team that went 9-4 was basically a completely different roster. If you just added Sanders to the 1-11 roster they had before he got there, he’s not going 9-4. They added some great receivers and better coaching. Sanders obviously helped, but the playmakers he was surrounded with made a big difference as well.

Sure. But I mean, Burrow had what are now two of the best WRs in the NFL and a bunch of other NFL talent around him. Burrow took advantage of that, but let's not pretend he put that team on his shoulders and won it all by himself. There is a reason people still talk about that 2019 LSU team as maybe being the best team in the history of college football.

I get that but Burrow won a natty and smoked elite teams. Much different than the Buffalos beating teams like Nebraska and Colorado State. It’s just not the same even taking LSU’s ridiculously talented roster into consideration. You still gotta go out there and win all those big SEC games and playoff games.

There is the first sign he's gonna be a problem. He didn't like what a coach said and called the head coach about it.

We don't need the drama!

Sure, but Colorado's talent wasn't that much better than the talent of the teams they played and the OL was pretty bad. They had one great player in Hunter and a very good QB in Sanders.

I'm not saying Sanders is close to the player Burrow is/was. I'm just saying that being arrogant isn't a disqualification to be a great QB when you see guys like Burrow, who was also arrogant, become great players. In fact, many great players are arrogant.

So, while I think there are many legit criticisms of Sanders, like his tendency to run backward in the pocket to get out of pressure and a not great arm, I'm not sure arrogance is a good reason to not draft him. But, that will really depend on how teams feel after meeting with him and/or interacting with other players. It's a big part of why the Saints like to take a group of guys out to dinner. They like to see how guys relate to other players.

And, in the end, the Saints apparently have a 2nd round grade on Sanders so they probably won't take him at #9 and it seems likely someone will take him before #40 given that QBs are always over drafted.

Contrary to popular belief, I think a lot of people do.
He’s basically ok with him going to any team that desperately needs a young quarterback outside of the Steelers I guess. It’d be different if he said just one or two teams.
