Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off (11 Viewers)

For some reason I'm already under the impression that other owners want a stop put to it.

Other teams use the same techniques - the Saints just push it a little farther than the average team.

I highly doubt any owners are looking at the Saints and sweating our cap strategy. If anything they're rooting for us to keep extending all our aging players.

Exactly the same, no. Pretty fricking close, yes. I mean, this isn't exactly a huge leap?

Especially when you factor in her cryptic last sentence:

I'm not in these rooms so who knows but it certainly appears (from multiple sources) that Loomis is an obstacle to hiring one or more of these candidates and, whatever his reputation might have been during the Brees/Payton heyday, there is a lot of chatter about whether he's the right guy going forward.
I don't believe that, it might not happen this year- cap constraints, but Loomis will not only let you pick the groceries he will go buy them for you

Did Sean Payton not go 7-9 three years in a row?
Yeah, people tend to gloss over that Payton missed the playoffs 6 seasons with Drew Brees as QB - literally one of the greatest (if not the…) to play the game at the helm and Payton can’t swing a playoff birth in 6 of Brees’ prime years.

It borders on criminal.

Don’t get me wrong, Payton is a great coach and the resurgence in Denver solidifies that - but I don’t think there’s any way to excuse going 45-52 in 6 total non-playoff years with Drew Brees as your QB.

i'm confused. i see multiple people saying McCarthy blew the interview, the interview didn't go well, etc, then i see others saying he hasn't interviewed yet..
So which is it? as far as i know McCarthy hasn't interviewd with us yet...
From my understanding, Moore was scheduled to interview before McCarthy and the Saints are just honoring that precession.

When the announcer asked about the roster and cap issues, Kafka turned into a complete politician and gave a complete political answer. That typically means, yes there are problems and hurtles, but heres some good qualities to focus on.
What would you expect him to say ? Keep in mind he is applying for a job with the saints.

This suggests that Loomis defers all roster and personnel decisions to others and does not exert any influence - he just does what "the football people" want. That was likely very true during the Haslett regime when Loomis was earlier in his career, and during the Payton era, when Payton was by far the dominant mind in the organization. But in the post-Payton era we are getting a lot more of Loomis' take on things and his fingerprints are much more prominent. The DA hire and super defensiveness around his coaching tenure, his pushing Carr as a Top 10 QB - that's not someone who is just running the numbers to make the roster cap compliant - that's a guy defending the coach HE selected and the roster HE wants on the field. At least that's how it seems to me.

Hopefully with this next hire he returns to just being the cap nerd.

Finally some news, was hoping we'd catch a nug of info from someone on here.

I don't think people believe he's winging it at all. We know he has a plan. It just hasn't ever turned out to be a very good plan.
The never ending “we keep kicking the can down the road” bit, insinuates that he only has one way of doing things. That’s near sighted bc we did it for a good part of SP’s tenure. ML structures deals with a plan. His plan has now shifted a bit, but yet we have people still complaining about the salary cap. It’s not a 1 year thing. We will be good salary cap wise soon. So I am not worried, unless he goes loco with restructures. I’m just concerned about the new HC hire

Not unless you have historically bad defenses that couldn’t stop a legless turtle

No. Carr was who DA wanted, he got him. Then when Carr became a Saint he supported him. Is there a player on the saints that Loomis has ever bad mouthed publicly?
