Saints Sign Ex-Browns LB Craig Robertson, 3 year deal (merged) (1 Viewer)

God I love this site. We haven't had a good LBer corp in years, we finally start addressing the situation, and people hate it. Gotta love it.

Considering the limited resources available and the limited talent in the FA pool, I think the FO has done a good job. It would be awesome if we could bring in Von Miller, Luke Kuechly, and Navorro Bowman but we can't. We went all in the past few years and came up short. Now we're in a cap jam and this is about the best we can hope for. I just don't know what more we could expect the FO to do.

And yeah the FO has made massive mistakes in free agency that led to our current cap situation but by God at least they tried. At least they did that. They spent every nickle they could to give us another chance at a Super Bowl when there are teams out there spending the bare minimum to make more money.

This reads like an apology letter defending Loomis and his FO.

Miller, Kuechly, Bowman were all draft picks. Supporting my wish for a draft/develop approach.

Your explanation for our cap woes further support the reasons for a drafting/developing. FA's should be an occasional key missing piece. No better example that our own Drew Brees. We lost the recipe when we started forgetting the draft and gambling on a full on FA approach.

As for the rest of you. Get over it. I am stating my opinion. Don't like it then don't read it or put me on your ignore list.

The Laurenitis signing still hasn't officially happened and now this? I'm thinking a Brees deal has to be imminent for us to essentially be signing all these guys to IOU contracts.

True.....but you ARE a constant source of negativity. You seem to only show up to complain or insult fans for being the least bit positive. No amount of season tickets will change that.

:plus-un2:

Most good players are former draft picks, more busts than all stars.

Yup, me the hater. Who would have thought it. Why did I waste my time going to all of those games at Tulane Stadium with my grandfather. Why did I waste my money as a season ticket holder? Yup. I hate the Saints is why.

You have every right not to like this move, if that's how you feel. I can't see why though, because this guy will give you 60 tackles, if he play 16 games, 90 if you add the others he assisted in the tackle. But, we aren't a herd, and dissent is always allowed in here...

Personally, I don't want you to agree, just to agree. You can learn quite a bit from disagreements, unless it's without cause. There is still a huge possibility that we take a LB in the draft, and I am pretty sure we will.

You know what, I am defending Loomis and his FO. Did they have bad drafts? Of course. Did they miss on more than a few free agents? You bet. But they didn't fail for lack of trying. They tried to bring in as much talent through free agency as they could because the window with Drew was closing. I have a hard time faulting them for that. They had some disastrous drafts but do you think they were trying to do that?

It hasn't worked out the past few years. I get it. We all get it. So we can sit here and cry over spilled milk and talk about coulda, shoulda, woulda until the cows come home. Or we can look to the future and hope for better years to come.

It's your right to be negative all you want but we have a right to be positive as much as we want. Instead of bashing a player you admittedly know nothing about why not do a little research on the guy before you rain on the parade?

I think were going to see multiple defensive formations this year. Robertson will play Will in a 4-3 and the WILB in a 3-4. Looks like they're not going to go another year betting on Ellerbe's injury history.

I also think this means a deal with Drew is close...

Can you blame them?

he's not interested in "research" or actual discussion. It's all about the drama and all of the jewels in the crown are in this thread (it's in other threads, but it's consolidated pretty well here).

He knows he's perceived as a "negative poster" and has specifically said so in a couple of posts in this thread. But it's not just about negativity - we all differ in opinions from one another, from time to time, about how the team manages the personnel decisions.

But most times it always comes back to the player. or the organization. For this poster, it's just about himself.

You've noted he doesn't do any research, and he won't.

He prides himself on collecting red thumbs - and has given himself a nickname:

My nickname is the red thumb collector...stupid thumbs that grown men use to point fingers up, down or at you. Welcome!

and he invites other people to red thumb him:

Lower right hand corner...you will see the thumbs.

Now, you might think that he's cool with that. He wants you to red thumb him. He's okay with it. But he's not, not really. Only so that he can use it as a barometer to tell people to bugger off:

As for the rest of you. Get over it. I am stating my opinion. Don't like it then don't read it or put me on your ignore list.

So he invites the red thumbs only so that he can point to said thumbs and use it as ammunition against the people that red thumb him. He collects and solicits negativity, at the same time expressing indignation at the negativity he's asked to heap upon him.

The next step is a passive aggressiveness because he can't argue something on its own merits.

A couple of examples:

here, rather than openly tell a poster why he's wrong and specify what's wrong in the post, he makes a passive aggressive 'recommendation' where that poster can locate an "edit" button so that he can "fix" his post.

edit to add that to quote a post all you have to do is hit the "quote" button down at the bottom. You will also see an edit button you can use to "fix" any of your own post.

and in the event that there's not an opportunity for passive-aggressiveness, there's the signature to punctuate every post:

If I don't respond to your quote of my post it is likely you are on my ignore list. :9:

Which is code for him sticking his fingers in his ears because so many people are pointing out how ridiculous his posts are. So if you criticize him by quoting him and he doesn't respond, he wants you to know you're on his ignore list.

And it's punctuated with the "thumbs up!" emoji - for good measure, in case the passive aggressiveness was, somehow impossibly, missed.

I think it's helpful to understand the approach so that future contrarian-ness can be contextualized properly. The opinions are posted but never supported because it's not really about discussion - it's about seeking attention and 'look at me disagreeing!"

It's a net drag on a thread that - as you noted - worth being positive over.

If there was some analysis or discussion around why the optimism should be tempered (how is he in pass coverage? what was his scouting report in university? for example), that would be one thing.

So, I'd recommend my approach - be happy we have another LB with promise! It's been a long, long time since I've been as optimistic about who we put on the field at LB and I'm going to be a Pollyanna, absent any proof the contrary :17:

If anything, I think this means we go to a true 4-3 defense, and kikaha switches to DE.

Robertson is a beast, and he is a superb in coverage.
