Saints Sign Ex-Browns LB Craig Robertson, 3 year deal (merged) (1 Viewer)

he's not interested in "research" or actual discussion. It's all about the drama and all of the jewels in the crown are in this thread (it's in other threads, but it's consolidated pretty well here).

He knows he's perceived as a "negative poster" and has specifically said so in a couple of posts in this thread. But it's not just about negativity - we all differ in opinions from one another, from time to time, about how the team manages the personnel decisions.

But most times it always comes back to the player. or the organization. For this poster, it's just about himself.

You've noted he doesn't do any research, and he won't.

He prides himself on collecting red thumbs - and has given himself a nickname:

and he invites other people to red thumb him:

Now, you might think that he's cool with that. He wants you to red thumb him. He's okay with it. But he's not, not really. Only so that he can use it as a barometer to tell people to bugger off:

So he invites the red thumbs only so that he can point to said thumbs and use it as ammunition against the people that red thumb him. He collects and solicits negativity, at the same time expressing indignation at the negativity he's asked to heap upon him.

The next step is a passive aggressiveness because he can't argue something on its own merits.

A couple of examples:

here, rather than openly tell a poster why he's wrong and specify what's wrong in the post, he makes a passive aggressive 'recommendation' where that poster can locate an "edit" button so that he can "fix" his post.

and in the event that there's not an opportunity for passive-aggressiveness, there's the signature to punctuate every post:

Which is code for him sticking his fingers in his ears because so many people are pointing out how ridiculous his posts are. So if you criticize him by quoting him and he doesn't respond, he wants you to know you're on his ignore list.

And it's punctuated with the "thumbs up!" emoji - for good measure, in case the passive aggressiveness was, somehow impossibly, missed.

I think it's helpful to understand the approach so that future contrarian-ness can be contextualized properly. The opinions are posted but never supported because it's not really about discussion - it's about seeking attention and 'look at me disagreeing!"

It's a net drag on a thread that - as you noted - worth being positive over.

If there was some analysis or discussion around why the optimism should be tempered (how is he in pass coverage? what was his scouting report in university? for example), that would be one thing.

So, I'd recommend my approach - be happy we have another LB with promise! It's been a long, long time since I've been as optimistic about who we put on the field at LB and I'm going to be a Pollyanna, absent any proof the contrary :17:

For everyone saying we are def going to a 3-4, in a 3-4 defense, all 4 of Stephone, Ellerbe, Laurinitais and Roberston would play as inside linebackers, none of the 4 could play OLB in a true 3-4 as they are not edge rushers, but pure sideline to sideline linebackers.

Once again, this screams traditional 4-3 to me, all of these linebackers are sideline to sideline guys, and not edge rushers. What this tells me is that we MUST sign or draft an elite 3-tech. In a 4-3 u need a 3-tech who isn't just a pass rusher, but also good vs the run and can eat blocks to keep ur linebackers clean to make plays.

Nick Fairley is a perfect fit for this. And if he isn't signed, I could see us easily taking Billings.

That's not saying much now is it...

We will sign a ton of mediocre to OK LB's hoping 3 or 4 churn up to the top for the active roster. It may work. there I said it. It MAY WORK!!! I am just more of the draft and develop approach vs' throwing new guys into the blender each year and hope they gell. Not to mention it is cheaper...but hey $ isn't a problem is it...oh wait I think it might be.

We went to and won a super bowl in 2009. Every LB on the team was a FA except for Mitchell who was a back up. Cheer up dude

4-3 or 3-4, I don't really care. I'm just glad they're making attempts at getting better. I like the signings.

P.S. I always enjoy your insight.

Not true at all. But, Loomis and Payton are two of the most powerful guys in the league at their position. They get paid a ton to not take their eye off the ball and they let this thing fall apart. They took advantage of an aging owner and failed at their jobs. If not for Drew we would be a 4 win team.
I'm not trying to pile on NCSaint but I'm just so over joyed with all of these FA moves, it's hard for me to see why you feel so sour to what Loomis and Payton have done. So, assuming a clean slate, if you could just enlighten us "homers" to who you think they should have gone after and what positions you see needs at. What positions should we address in the draft with our six picks?

Reminds me of 06 when Payton brought in Simoneaux, Shanle and Fujita. Not splashy, but formed a bedrock that worked well.

Agreed, I also really like the signing, addressing needs.

Interesting comparison. Eventually, Vilma replaced Simoneau--and that combo won XLIV. With the lack of cap space, I don't know what people were expecting in free agency.

If the team thinks Davison is a 1-tech/NT then we have a big empty spot at 3tech as Kevin Williams played all 16 there. Doubt we go into the draft with a hole that large. I'd bet cookies Fairley is still on the radar and keep in mind we visited with Hatcher. One of them will be signed b4 the draft.

What kind of cookies we betting?

The older fans tend to be. They were around for some really awful football and bad decisions. They're like WWI veterans, saw too much to be the same.

Naw, that is no excuse. I've been around since the very first pre-season game up in Shreveport (then called an exhibition game) and am actually positive most of the time. The contrast with what we had then vs what we have now makes me grateful and optimistic for the most part.

So, I kinda think it is just the opposite with us old farts. ;)

OTOH, some folks just have to be negative to show others how much they know and how stupid optimistic fans are.

I am not sold on our current DTs. I like them. But pragmatism can't let me trust them. I think we're in need of two starting DTs if we're still looking 43. Fairley and then a high draft pick. Two high draft picks if not. Like our OGs. That needs competition at both spots.
