Saints signed QB Nathan Peterman (1 Viewer)

Dude. I totally get it if the starting QB gets injured ANY team would be lucky to continue winning. Backup QB is a hot commodity in todays NFL. DUDE!

The point is Peterman was not a good pick; unless it is truly just to push Haener as cheaply as we can. If that was the choice, Bravo to the brain trust of saints FO.

Dude.

Sorry that my use of dude bothered you. Next time I'll try Chief or possibly Hoss.

But, yeah, several reports said they just wanted a guy to push Haener to be the #2 QB. Yes, they should interest in Flacco which is inconsistent with that but we don't know how interested they were in Flacco and maybe they pivoted to Haener as the #2 when it became clear that Flacco was going elsewhere. In the end, I just find it hard to get worked up about who the #2 QB will be when I'm not even happy with our #1 QB.

Yep. W/ Flacco you’d still feel good about winning if Carr goes down. W/ Haener or Peterman you’re in trouble. I don’t know that you need to draft a QB early but you damn sure better bring another body in.

That room has been downgraded
Well, there’s going down for a series and there’s going down for half the season or more. And unfortunately you don’t know ahead of time which it might be. If QB1 goes down for a series or two, you don’t need a $5 million backup to come in. But if Carr goes down for several games, it gets ugly with who we currently have in the QB room.

Gotta just be a camp arm. Hopefully league minimum with no guarantees. I honestly did not expect anyone to ever give him another shot. He is that bad.

Camp arm. Say it with me - camp arm. With the loss of Winston they need another QB (or two) to run the second or third team Offenses. If he beats out Haener then so be it. That will just mean Haener is really, really bad because Peterman is horrible.

I don't think he's a camp arm. Lol

Wonder if he is just a vet who is somewhat familiar with the system to assist Carr and moreso Haener with the new system.

Well folks, on the bright side if Carr goes down for the season God forbid, and Haener sucks, we'll most likely pick 1st in 2025.
The great reset that everyone wanted will be here.

Seriously, though, I get it, even if Peterman was one of the original NFL memes for being so awful as a starter.

The point of the #2 here is not to play and win games. It's to be a vet who can help manage the game from the sidelines. If Carr actually has to miss significant time, you roll with Haener.
This is correct.

In another life I worked in investment banking, and we advised a deal that Brett Favre was part of. One day we got to talking, and the subject of his backups came up (I think it was because Mark Brunell was our backup). I asked him what made a good backup quarterback, and he said essentially whT you said.

He said, “I never viewed the other guys in the quarterback room as my threat. Some of those guys earlier in my career were good; but I was better.

Towards the end of my career the coaches leaned on my relationships with my quarterbacks as I used them as a second set of eyes, and a sounding board as much as I used the coaches, and in many cases they were better than some of our coaches in telling me what I needed.”

Back to the topic at hand. I hope Peterman makes it. This place could use more Seinfeld references.

This better be a vet min guy that we expect Haener to beat out. I don't want to waste money or a roster spot on him.
