Saints to sign LB Kiko Alonso (1 Viewer)

The Saints took a long hard look at Schobert, and decided to pass on him. Schobert either wanted too much money to be a depth LB, or the Saints weren’t that impressed by him.

The Saints are committed to Pete Werner as a starter moving forward… and I don’t understand why so many folks are disappointed by that!?!?
Werner is a stud! …and he’s only going to get better! Demario Davis LOVES Pete Werner… and that’s good enough for me.
I see your point and I agree with that. But we do need quality depth behind Davis and Werner, not just any kind of depth. The rookie LB we drafted is still an unknown, Baun, IMO is in the wrong system with us, Kaden Ellis is still figuring it out, but is playing better. Dowell did fairly well in spot duty and Sewell and Pryor are undrafted rookies who will probably end up on the PS. I'm not asking for Werner to be replaced, just some decent backup behind him and Davis for in case one of them gets injured and has to miss some time.

Werner has done really well coming in as a rookie and playing as good as he did and hopefully continues to get better. Davis is just an ageless wonder, still playing at an All-Pro level.

Alonso may not be what he once was, but like I said earlier, we need quality depth behind Werner and Davis. He brings veteran experience that could help Werner further along. And we are thin at LB in the experience area. The Saints must have seen something in his tryout to sign him to a contract.

Who said they were disappointed by that? Anyone signed is for depth and that is obvious.

As for Alonso, if I remember correctly, he's a one-trick pony in that he's a great pass rusher while being fairly mediocre in other areas. I don't remember him doing anything special or terrible when he was here.
He's a run specialist. Had a few TFLs. Did some of his best work lining up alongside CJGJ when he was at SS when Vonn Bell was out.

I saw a picture of Alonso at practice today, sorry didn't save it. But, he's rocking #47 and has long hair now. Looking like Anzalone, lol.

Incomplete title. The rest of it goes: "...to a two-day contract so he can retire a Saint."

Kiko excitedly dressed out, getting pumped. “I’m back, baby!” Stepped out through the Saints’ training room door from the AC into the thick, hot, humid NOLA air and gasped “I’m done, baby!”
I'm sticking with the "he saw Penning throwing defensive players around like toys" theory.

I wonder why the Saints didn’t bring Kwon back. Signed for $1.2M with the Jets less than one week ago. Seems like a steal.
