Saints trade Adam Trautman to Broncos for #195th pick (WR A.T. Perry, Wake Forest) (1 Viewer)

He’s at the very least a good insurance policy for MT.
This is one of the primary reasons I wanted him. We needed another big-bodied, cerebral WR who can exploit a corner's weaknesses just in case this is MT's swan song with the team. Also, IIRC, Perry did well against A.J. Terrell in college, and Terrell is considered a Top 20 CB in the NFL.

This guy has a really good toolkit already, so I'm surprised he went this late. Size, speed, and can get open with quick feet. Gives us a guy with size to be our MT insurance, but with a totally different skillset.

The bar isn’t exactly set super high for this trade to become worthwhile but I still have my doubts. We had a need at TE; and it’s not to say we couldn’t use the WR depth too but I feel like this move creates a bigger hole that now desperately needs to be filled.
Trautman never really turned the corner for developing into a complete TE. He was a JAG, and those can be found in UDFA or via a cheap free agent.

I liked the progress I was seeing enough to feel like he shouldn’t be traded away for a 6th rounder, when we have depth issues at the position, but that’s just me

I really like the pick. He could have been 3rd RD pick and most would not have been shocked. He has produced in the past against good competition and his weaknesses can be cleaned up, here is his blurb:

Saints selected Wake Forest WR A.T. Perry with the No. 195 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Perry (6’3/198) was a part-time player at most for two seasons as a Demon Deacon before breaking out in his third campaign. In 2021, he posted a 71-1,293-15 receiving and led Wake Forest in all receiving categories. Wake Forest’s offense took a step back in 2022 and Perry’s numbers followed suit, though he still topped the century mark in receiving yards, scored 11 times, and caught 81 balls. Perry has a unique combination of size and speed (4.47 40). However, it could help for him to bulk up a bit and play with more physicality at the next level as he didn’t do well against physical corners in college. There’s room for Perry, 23, to grow in a number of ways, but he has the size and college production of a starting-caliber receiver in the NFL. He could be a starting wideout in three-receivers sets with the Saints this season. Perry will be worth monitoring in fantasy.

He can really learn physicality from Michael Thomas... That is, if Thomas is willing to teach him.

Everyone worried about tight end depth, be prepared to see Taysom get a lot of tight end 2 snaps
