Sherman Signs Record Deal (3 Viewers)

damn, overpaid and overrated. Would not be as good if he had any QB's in his division imo. They should have at least waited to see if the NFL would crack down on his contact this year lol what am I talking about? Drain that cap! Drain that CAP!

It seems to me that this is a misconseption. We have Brees on a monster deal. We just signed Byrd to a monster deal. JG is going to get a monster deal. I'm sure Cam will be getting a monster deal. If we can make it work, then I'm sure they can as well. I'm sure they will lose good players, but I don't expect them to be out of contention for a championship. Their FO is doing an amazing job IMO and I hate it because the Seahawks and 49ers are what's standing in our way for a championship. I have faith in our FO though! We have been drafting well and making good FA moves. It takes a deep team to get to the big show and we've done a hell of a job. Seahawks, 49ers, and Saints are easily the deepest teams in the NFC. No one else is even close!

Well said. They may have to work the cap like saints... but at the same time will be in contention for the next 4-6 years.... perhaps get another superbowl. So it will be worth it.

So their big three will kill their cap. They should have kept only 2 out of the 3 and Russell Wilson should be included. Who would you keep between Sherman and Thomas?

I'd say the 40M guaranteed vs the 25M guaranteed (and 40M total) gave you the answer they'd pick if needed.

However, the guaranteed may be misleading.. may be injury guarantees.

I don't get why everyone is making the statement about the Hawks ruining their long term because of these deals. Has anyone actually looked at the numbers and factored in the cap is going up the next 2 years (If I'm not mistaken). Looking at the timing, it could be better. They just locked up a large part of the team's "Core" the year before two cap raises (And inevitably causes players to demand more) and have balanced the the guaranteed money structures so that the last 2 years of both Earl's and Sherm's contracts have very little dead money. They also didn't lock them in for 6yrs where the chances for a drop off of in play or injuries increases exponentially. I know it's fun to find ways to hate but these deals are structured pretty well. And nothing this year spells disaster for the long term competitiveness of the franchise.

Next year will be waaaaaaay more interesting. The entire LB core is up for new deals, including the SB MVP Smith (not even a starter last year) as is Wilson, Okung (left tackle), Doug Baldwin, and many other role players like Farwell (ST Captain)......Next year will be the difference between a huge drop off and the possibility of consistency.

I think it's funny how out of all the fans in the NFL we're screaming cap hell. As we know there's ways around the cap.

Richard Sherman's last play alone in the NFC Championship game warrants his new contract. Guy is a flat out difference maker.

Congrats Richard! I just hope you guys plummet after reaching the top of the world!

Sherman, easily. Safety is more easily replaceable.

Based on what? His Stanford education?

Like he says based on his character and personality. It well documented that he is an attention junky who plays with a very good backfield. Just because he has a Stanford education does not give him a ticket to be a jerk. There are several NFL players with a solid education that have far better attitudes. There is a reason that the Redskin lineman socked him in his mouth after the game. He has the gift of gab but people who know... "know". I work in Seattle and there are fans here who don't like the guy.

Thomas easily. Even other DBs have said that Sherman plays with a phenomenal backfield that makes him shine. Earl Thomas allows him to do what he does. Also note that Sherman only plays one side of the field, teams move their best WR to the other side and Sherman does not go with them. Thomas covers the entire backfield very well allowing DBs to take risks one on one.

He and Thomas are why that backfield is so feared.
