We don't owe Cam, Demario, or especially not Tyrann Mathieu a thing. They've been well paid by us, but they no longer perform at even a decent level. Mathieu in particular is a liability, not to mention his terrible effort week in and week out.

Alvin's skillset, even at an older age, is particularly valuable when it comes to developing a young quarterback.

There is no universe that this roster is competing in the playoffs. Not in spite of DD, Cam, and Mathieu, but largely BECAUSE of them.

Veteran leadership is a real thing. And we've seen what happens without it. Should we move on from the old vets? Yes. But not all at once because I don't see anyone currently on the roster ready to step into the veteran leadership role.

You are saying that like he was not part of 10 and 12 win teams and that was with a horrible D. If the 1st 2 games were not a peek into what our offense can be and what DC can be then I don't know what I can tell you
Ryan Fitzpatrick started the 2018 season with 819 yards and 8 tds with 1 interception while he led the bucs to a 2-0 record, one notoriously against us.........then reality set in just like Derek Carr's reality. After those two games Carr went 3-5 and played pedestrian football like he always has for his career.

Just because you have a 2 game stretch against terrible teams it doesn't mean thats how the rest of the season will go or he and the team will play like that to infinity.

I definitely am not suggesting a clean cut from all three of them at once. I understand what veteran leadership provides, especially to a rebuilding team. My point was, that their presence doesn't mean that we need to be making moves as if this is a playoff team.

Starting Rattler gives us the best chance to have the first pick in next years draft. But it could also mean one and done for a new head coach, so it would be hard to imagine a new coach hitching his career to Rattler.

I'm sure the next head coach will be given assurances that he has time to turn things around. The whole Allen debacle demonstrated their patience.

How patient will Saints fans be if they only win 3 games? I don't think it's something you can count on after the last few years. Mickey's job is safe, but not if he doesn't start winning.

A new coach starting Rattler won’t be here long. As a fan would you want a coach that would make that kinda of choice? I thought DA going into the season with Haener and Rattler as his backup QBs was a stupid decision. We need a coach that can evaluate talent and bring in a talented young player or a solid vet to be our backup. I would prefer JW over Haener and Rattler being our number 2.

Depends on the kind of fan. Someone that understands our cap situation, lack of elite QB's in the draft and Carr not being worth his contract. Or the casual knuckle dragger.

Fans don't matter as Loomis already made clear. Remains to be seen if he'll be running the show but regardless our cap situation is such a cluster that I don't see how a coach can be one and done given it's not their fault.

We’re in a weird situation. We have a two year Carr lease. We have to decide if we’re building around him. I seriously doubt that they’ll bring in a whole new system for him to learn. If they go the Carr direction then hire Glenn or Weaver and keep the offensive staff. Ofc it’ll have to be Glenn/Weaver’s decision to keep the staff, otherwise abort the plan. The optics would be poor. But it would make sense.

The OCs they are interviewing look to be geared around a partially mobile QB like Rattler. Joe Brady, kingsbury, Kafka, Nagy, Kellen Moore.

Is Rattler the better option? I think so but not because he’s better than Carr. Carr will not stay on the field for 17 games in 2025. So you’d have to assume you’ll be playing both. Which is what would happen. Considering that & that we may take ONE year off-ish, by cutting a couple vets and not signing any big time free agents and letting our own FA’s walk.

So which coach would want to coach this environment? Probably one that is really familiar with this team. There is job security in familiarity. So, with that said, Welcome back to New Orleans AG! Rizzi would also be a good one year bridge coach. One thing is for sure, that we’re not winning next year. We’re rebuilding. Maybe they can sell to the fans that what we saw in week 1 and 2 was too good to walk away from. (When we all know, Carr won’t last more than 3-4 games)

My answer changes with scenario. If someone like Joe Brady is our head coach and says "I can make this guy special", I'm all for it.

Anything less than that, the answer is no. Rattler has some good skills but he's not good. We either need to look for better, already groomed talent or hire a QB whisperer who can groom Rattler. And if a QB whisperer says Rattler ain't it, then we should start moving on and not look back.
Which QB did Brady make special that was not already special ??

Does he need to make a QB special or design the offense around the QB to get the most out of them. He's certainly done to latter after his predecessor failed to.

If Brady can design an offense to get the most out of QB, then he should be able to have success doing that with Carr just as much or more than with Rattler. If a new coach brings in a new offensive system, then both Carr, Haener and Rattler would all be learning a new system, so none of them have an advantage over the others regarding that.

People are grasping at rationalizes for why the QB they prefer would be the best choice for a new coach. There's a lot of QB wish casting going on, which is not at all unusual.
