Should the Saints be Sold? (1 Viewer)

After the incredibly vociferous response from the fan base on this forum, I wonder if they still want to supprt the Saints. Some want Dennis Allen and Matt loomis fired. Some think Ms Benson is unqualified to own a NFL team. Some on here are giving credibility to Duncan's posts, but who has been hated here since Bountygate. I would suggest that none of of the posters, NONE, possess the acumen to address the problems within the "culture" of the Saints.

Anyway, back to the title of this [post. If the fan base has lost confidence in Allen, Loomis. and Ms Benson to run the team. Would they want it sold. Let's digest that possibility. If the Saints are sold, would they remain in the Big Easy? Don't know. It's possible. I remember 2005.

I would hope my fellow fans would tamp down their temptuous childish anger and wait for the off season to unfold. It just seems that a 9-8 season is no reason to assume that the sky has fallen.
A family member and I were discussing this yesterday: Is Ms Benson the problem and should she Sell the team?

The short answer is No. I remember 2005 as well, and we're facing the same chatter now as we did back then.

If she were to sell the team, then there's this possibility that the new owner could be tempted to move the team. Yet if fans got together and stopped buying tickets, then we'd be face with the same scenario. The knife cuts both ways.

The issue with Ms Benson is that she trusts whoever she hired. Under David Griffin, the Pelicans are on their 3rd Head Coach. Ms Benson supports whatever decision he makes.

There isn't anything wrong with our owner. That's 4 billion$$$$ Gayle would leave the city of New Orleans through various charities.

Benson, who inherited the teams from her late husband, Tom, disclosed the succession plans in a joint report from The Times-Picayune and WVUE-TV. It revealed the plan to sell the Saints and Pelicans to parties who won't relocate them, then distribute the proceeds to charity.Sep 30, 2021

I do not consider the Saints a contending team. They finished 9-8 playing a historically weak schedule. They are two levels below the best teams. When discussing our record and team and player statistics, you have to factor in the level of competition we played.

And anyone who thinks that saintsreport.com is becoming tigerdroppings.com has spent little time on the LSU website where anyone can say anything however he wants to say it, posts are not moderated, and there are threads condemning with profanity SR moderators by name as left-wing censors threatening free speech in America.

Tellingly, it seems that overall the posts critical of the organization are more reasoned and less emotional than many posts supporting current management that in gist say simply that those critical are spoiled and are not real fans.

And why do I think that some "hard" questions are not being asked by the owner and team president? Because I believe that had they been asked, the general manager would not act in public as though he has the job security of an Article III federal judge, and some changes would have been made by this time, like a new offensive coordinator.

Finally, I recognize that "reaction" scores are part of this website. In my nearly quarter century as a member of this website, I don't believe I have ever paid attention to reaction scores until recently, and I don't believe I have ever given anyone a reaction score, a practice I am going to maintain. If I like a post, I will say so on the thread. If I disagree with a post and feel a comment is warranted, I will do so on the thread to give people a chance to respond. Apparently, some of my posts have triggered some strong reactions. Again, it seems part of the website so go for it. But I am more than happy to discuss on the board the merits of any position I take.

Gayle should not sell the team. I don’t think she is a bad owner bc she stays in her lane and is drama free. I love the fact that our owner is not a subject of bad publicity like some owners. That is a breath of fresh air.
You just have to look at some of the brain dead owners who have destroyed franchises! We overall are so fortunate to have a stable franchise!

Just as a tiny reminder, Gayle has made a commitment for the proceeds of the sale of the team upon her death - with the condition that it remain in New Orleans and operated by a trust - to fund a huge new Foundation that will support this city in perpetuity.

It's literally impossible to overstate what a big deal this - in a community with the most needs & the fewest resources in the nation.

Agreed. As completely immoral and unethical, as well as unacceptable as his behavior was that essentially forced him to sell his majority share ownership of the Carolina Panthers, Jerry Richardson was and remains 10x a better, more intelligent, and successful owner than anything Tepper will ever hope to achieve. Under Richardson's ownership, Panthers were actually winners, advanced to the NFCCG in their second season of existence, eventually played in 4 NFCCG'S overall, and appeared in two SB's.
The Jags also made the AFCCG in their 2nd season.

I give credit to Richardson for the later success, but not at the beginning. Give me the first and last picks
in every round of the draft and a zero balance against the cap,,and Iii'll show you how to build a winner
very quickly. It was blatantly so unfair to the rest of the teams, the NFL changed the way future expansion
teams would be handled. The Browns and later Texans ddn't have the luxury given the Jags and Panthers.
It's the main reason I despise the Panthers

It’s thoughtful and respectful discussion that I hope for. I do not care for some of the hyperbolic unfounded sophomoric opinions some fans are inclined to post. Of course, I have high expectations for humanity in general.

The internet as we know it wasn't around during the "paper bag" era. If it were, i'm sure you would see some unhappy posters online.

You're correct as in the critical posts are needed. You have people spending their money on a product you expect the best to get placed on the field. At this point, you're holding folks hostage if you believe it's ok to stay in mediocrity.

Fans of other teams dream of having team owners who leave the football to the football people and let them spend like the Saints have

Ms. B is awesome for that. She should be celebrated.

I grew up a Bears' fan (I live here) but ownership drove me away 27 years ago. They can't stop goofing it up.

Look at the Cowboys. They're doing well now, but they've had a rough 30+ years

That was the debate that took place recently...if we had Jerry Jones, then DA would not be returning this year.
But If we had the combo of Jones & Payton, then we wouldn't have enjoyed the Payton era as long as we did.
Our best bet is to get a really good football savy GM to run the team. With him making the calls and Ms Benson being hands off, then we'd be ok.
