Sneaux next week [Historic snowstorm in southeast Louisiana on January 21, 2025] (6 Viewers)

I just got finished taking photos of the last several spots on our property that still had patches of snow. I doubt any of it makes it to mid-day tomorrow. Even the spot in 24-hour shadow I mentioned earlier -- a pile of snow in the corner of our lot, propped up by fencing and shaded by a magnolia tree. A good foot deep and substantial yesterday afternoon. Gone just now.

There was enough here and there to make a few last dirty snowballs and throw them at the fence. Au revoir, la neige.

also fwiw the Aldi's at the ol Winn Dixie across from Saints facility is the nicest Aldis i've been in
The one on Siegen looked like a sad unstocked Dollar Store when I checked it out
Baton Rouge ruins everything

also I might have seen Mike detellier walking in
When did that open? I thought I knew where all the Aldi's were within a 100-mile radius.

ETA: Wait, I just realized I was conflating Aldi's with Trader Joe's but it still holds true

Went to the Wal-Mart today. Completely out of bread and hot chocolate!

Oh wow, they finished the conversion already? We're waiting for our local Winn Dixie to finish renovations to turn into an Aldi. Supposed to be by summer.
Where? (As mentioned, I like to take note of all of them)

The Terrytown Winn Dixie closed last fall to be converted into an Aldi. Another one in Algiers was supposed to close also and re-open as an Aldi, but it appears to be hanging on as a Winn Dixie for now.

There's one more West Bank Winn Dixie, in Marrero. There's already an Aldi in Marrero, so maybe that Winn Dixie will be kept around.

The Aldi on O'Neal is 10x better than the one on Seigen. Seigen Aldi has looked like a glorified dollar general from day 1.

I still have plenty on my roof as well as a bit 20 foot patch in the back yard. It's still so surreal.

The Algiers location is closing soon. It can't happen soon enough. That Winn Dixie is a hell hole of last resort.

There's another WD -> Aldi convert happening in Prairieville, if that's in your radius
Just a little outside. lol (107 miles) But it's still interesting catching up with how many Aldi's are popping up all of a sudden the last couple years. The one in Slidell opened up in the old Toy R Us building. The one in Covington I think -- I THINK -- was a new build.

COVID delayed the onset of Aldi in southeast Louisiana.

There was a closed Toys R Us store in Marrero that was supposed to be the first Aldi in the New Orleans area. Early in 2020, they started advertising for open positions to staff the store, including management trainees.

It never came to pass, though. It would be another three-and-a-half years before Marrero got its Aldi store, and it was a new build.

It was. (New build in Covington)
Not as large as a Winn Dixie footprint, but large enough. Stays busy.
