Sno Balls......Favorite??? Favorite Flavor?? (5 Viewers)

Chocolate with condensed milk(ice cream in the middle is good but some places don't do it), two of the best places I go to, Bot N Nola's Abita Springs and the Sugar Shack in Violet....both places are quality, lots of juice and cream and the ice is very refined...

I'm pretty sure you two should be dating.

Hey, whodatfever, hope you're feeling better today and are on the mend. You may have been kidding about people dating because of their sno-ball preferences--but a shared love of Hansen's was one of the first things that my future wife and I first discovered about each other when we met, out here in Los Angeles, about 12 years ago. (She is an NOLa native, I lived there for a year after finishing school, but we didn't meet then.) I had a big stack of Hansen's go-cups in the cupboard at my apartment and when she saw them, she just knew . . .

Anyway, we all made it to Hansen's when we were in town last month, first time in a long time for me, first time ever for PayOrPlay Jr., who ordered my old usual, nectar cream with condensed milk. I had almond and ice cream with condensed milk, which was a fabulous combination. My wife went for her old favorite, peach with condensed milk.

We have tried shaved ice desserts of all kinds in many places, including all sorts of Asian variations like Korean bingsu, Filipino halo-halo, Indonesian es teler, Japanese kakigori, Taiwanese shaved ice, etc. I would still say that Hansen's has the best shaved ice of anywhere I've ever been. The closest competitor we've found so far was an amazing shave ice stand in Honolulu called Waiola, where the ice was almost (not quite) as perfect as Hansen's and the syrups were superb, plus they have this amazing salty-sour plum powder called li hing mui that you have to taste to believe. (Waiola was notably better than the famous Matsumoto's on the Oahu North Shore, which we also tried on the same trip.) But Hansen's remains first in our hearts and on our tongues.

I'm seriously considering buying some iron-on transfer paper and putting that picture on a t-shirt. Like seriously.

I think there's only orange and snobliz (pink) tart flavors.

There is a Lime, or Limeade or something. I had it last summer. It's up on the wall somewhere...
