So will NOLA have to wait more then 10 years again to host next Super Bowl? (6 Viewers)

What’s missing from this article is actual factual information. There are currently 20,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the Superdome
. That’s more than any other potential Superbowl location. Article is a low key hit job.

Atlanta’s online information says they have 20,000 parking spaces within a 20 minute walk of the stadium. I think this idiot got the 20,000 rooms confused with parking spaces.

Yeah it's totally absurd - the # of hotel rooms in close proximity to the dome has always been one of our biggest ADVANTAGES.

The walk from a hotel room to the Dome itself is one of my favorite things in sports. The energy, the optimism, the buzz, the fact that just about every fan you can see is wearing Saints gear, and the ones that aren't have some sort of costume on that makes them look like a supervillain. It's amazing. Thousands of people got to feel that for the first time yesterday and they'll remember it for the rest of their lives.

The blackout didn't help but with all of the state-of-the-art stadiums that have been built, there's also just a lot more competition to host the game. There was a time when New Orleans, especially after the completion of the SuperDome, stood out more as an ideal spot.
Agreed tenfold. It might not be another 12 years until the next one, but that's definitely the biggest factor people are overlooking.

Since the Superdome was awarded the 2013 Super Bowl in May 2009, there's been 7 new stadiums that's opened across the league (Dallas, East Rutherford, Santa Clara, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles).

All 7 have hosted a Super Bowl since opening and 3 of those stadiums are already scheduled to host their 2nd Super Bowl (Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Atlanta) and can easily see others like Dallas and Las Vegas being in the fray for their 2nd by the time we're ready for our next bid.

Then after adding in the other regular host cities that have already hosted 3+ in their current venues (Miami, Glendale, and Tampa) and other future new venues that are projected to be open by the next available Super Bowl bid (Nashville, Buffalo, Chicago, and Jacksonville), that becomes quite a long list of waiting cities.

Granted most of the venues in colder climates whether open or domes have their odds of frequently hosting drastically limited due to the potential weather issues, New Orleans still has to contend with a minimum of 8+ other host cities also with mild climates in any given year.

While Mardi Gras is a tremendous hurdle for the city in regards to which years they can place bids for future Super Bowls, it can also potentially be an asset in helping New Orleans "jump the line" ahead of cities in the bidding process due to years that their dates conflict but just as easily be a liability like we saw with this Super Bowl which was supposed to be last year.

Looking at the Mardi Gras schedule posted a few pages back and factoring in having a literal handful of potential host cities and the likelihood of moving to an 18-game season, I'd guess the next Super Bowl might not be until February 2033 (Super Bowl LXVII) which would be 8 years.

February 2030 (Super Bowl LXIV) would also be ideal, but can't see them giving us another only 5 years after this one with their being 5 new stadiums being opened between now and then and 2 other stadiums (Las Vegas and Minneapolis) likely looking for their 2nd host years. Not to mention I'm sure Jerry Jones is fâchéd he still hasn't gotten his 2nd host opportunity for JerryWorld and it'd be 20+ years since the first.

New Orleans needs a new arena for basketball. New Arena should be an elite multipurpose entertainment facility that compliments the superdome much better.
There is a persistent rumor that a new stadium for the Pells may be part of the new river front development that said I doubt I ever see anything but that old decaying power plant in my lifetime. That getting built would help us greatly in getting the draft here one day, but again I am not holding my breath.

The superbowl will likely be a decade wait because of the competition out there. Nissan Stadium going up in Nashville is going to be a major game changer. It once upon a time used to be just New Orleans and Miami as the core where the NFL has the best experience. Las Vegas entered that realm in its first year and I fully expect Nashville to enter the group as well. I know Indy is a cold weather city but they have an amazing set up as well. The competition out there is fierce. Will get super bowls for sure but the wait is just longer.

New Orleans should be on the 5 year plan. The only rival to New Orleans would be Las Vegas. As far as venues go, the Superdome is better than Vegas' new stadium. Vegas has a lot to offer. So does New Orleans. Nashville could become a contender

I think a good plan would be to anticipate New Orleans having the SB every eight years, with the option to move that up or down a year or two based on other stadium developments. It shouldn’t be 12, 15 years to wait for the big game to come back here because places like East Rutherford want to get in the mix. New Orleans does not lack for problems but it gets hosting this event right every time.

Good question. We are competing not just the new stadium cities but also cold weather cities that normally don't get the game. From what I remember New York and Indianapolis did a great job when they hosted.
The NFL and the SB that played there that year got extremely lucky and fortunate because essentially less than a week after that SB, that entire region got covered in a huge, blinding snowstorm that wouldve made logistics for SB-related activities, events, parades and even the game's attendence is stark trouble. They were lucky and Goodell and the league knew they dodged a huge one and that realization that the next time they probably wouldn't be is why the NFL will never take that chance again. Cold weather cities like Detroit, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis work well and function accordingly despite potential logistical difficulties posed by extremely cold temperatures and blizzards and that all their NFL home teams' play in comfortable, climate-controlled domed stadiums.

Unfortunately, the hurricane threat is always a concern. If the Superdome sustains significant damage in July or August, it’d be quite the challenge to get it ready by Feb/March.

Not wanting it, but it’s a reality to be mindful of.

Except the year the lights went out during the game

Buffalo is getting a new stadium, but the city is so small and it doesn’t have the name brand like New Orleans or Vegas has to draw people in.
True, but another mitigating factor is that many western New York residents and Buffalo Bills fans really believe that their harsh, brutal winters combined with playing outdoors helps them win important regular-season and post-season games when they have good, talented teams and many of them didnt want to give up what they perceive as a major home-field advantage like Minnesota did in the early 80's leaving Metropolitan Stadium for the cushy, track-and-field astro-turf of the Metrodome.

Perhaps a better way of looking at this isn’t that it’s bad venue for holding the SB, far from it. The Super Dome is pretty cool albeit aging.

Problem is it’s not the only good venue anymore. Not going to rehash all the stadiums as they have already been pointed out. It’s important to note that a lot will come to personal preference as to which stadium but ultimately cash wins out.

Nashville is a really fun city and it is very similar to New Orleans in that its essence is music and food as well which equals fun times. Plus that stadium is going up on the river right by everything.

Some cities like Miami, Las Vegas and also New Orleans are very welcoming to visitors other cities that don’t get a ton of tourist just aren’t set up real well for tourist because they aren’t a destination in their own right. Even some that are visitor cities their setup just isn’t cool. Take Los Angles one of the most visited cities in America. They have tons and tons of stuff for visitors to do but the stadium is in Inglewood kind off on its own (which is an absolute marvel anyone looking to do a road game would be well served paying that place a visit). Don’t get me wrong it’s far closer to everything than the old Rams stadium and where the Raiders played but the setup doesn’t compare to NOLA.
