Soooo when is it NOT Fire Season??? Franklin fire in Malibu CA (1 Viewer)

Based on that report, it sounds more like she was demoted rather than fired since she's still working for the agency at a lower rank.

Semantics. She was fired from her position as Chief, they just have union policies that allow them to stay employed at a lower rank when fired from leadership posts. She was 100% fired from her post as fire chief of L.A. and whatever job she has now assuredly pays a fraction of what she was making before.

Either way, she's totally being scapegoated.

Meanwhile, Mayor Fish is gonna investigate why she went to Ghana instead of staying home waiting for the Santa Anas.

I suspect this is more about the fire chief being openly and publicly critical of Karen Bass in the middle of the crisis.
And she had every right to be publicly critical of Bass. She had nowhere near the resources she needed to even attempt to combat those fires. And that was a direct result of Bass's policies.

Yep, she was still fired from that job. I suspect Bass will be fired from hers when the voters go to the polls for their next election.

Not contesting that. Just explaining why I think she was fired.

She was on vacation & nobody predicted the fires. I cannot judge for that. Everyone is entitled to take vacation.

That being said, the fire chief is being scapegoated & they claim it’s because she sent 1k firefighters home because there was no water for them to use. Absurd. That’s not her fault.

Ghana was "official business", not a vacation. Besides which she pledged she wouldn't take any trips abroad (I'll spot her the two Paris ones, grudingly, because she was representing the city with the next Olympics but I would also contend they count as paid vacations). Admittedly you can't ever predict ahead of time how bad it was going to be. But I think she does admit that she was warned about the Santa Anas but then seems to abstractly counter that she wasn't warned "enough" .....

... and doesn't give the fire chief any grace for any of this. I hope the fire chief sues for retaliatory firing, but I wouldn't have any hope she'd get very far.

Oh I read somewhere that it was vacation. Would like to know what ‘official’ business she had in Ghana.

She was attending the inauguration of their new president. Which she magnanimously allows now that it was a "mistake" to have traveled there.

If I say much more, it'll be political. But I would like to know if any of her constituents really and truly wants to defend her as having a strong advocacy response for the areas affected let alone how she handled the budget resources available to the fire department. Mayor of LA is admittedly a big job. Whether a D or an R, personally I think her response is an F.
