Spencer Rattler’s first start was… (2 Viewers)

In the universe where people can judge a rookie quarterback as a rookie quarterback.
Same people that refuse to give Carr even a small bit of blame for bad INTs and scared play because Hill and multiple OL starters are injured.

It’s a trip and hilarious in a sad way.

It was ok for his first start. Nothing stood out that was great and nothing that made me go "D'oh". He wasn't as good as some that wanna anoint him the starter now because they don't like Carr say, and thankfully not nearly as bad as Bryce Young looked in his second year much less first start. He can be a good QB in a couple of years. He just isn't there now.

What I would be afraid of is if he starts the rest of the year with the lack of OL and playmakers we have is it could be awful for his confidence going forward. Somebody pointed out that David Carr had basically the same problem when he came in and he never got over it. Don't want that to happen to SR because the potential is there. In a year or so.

Carr seems better because we were completely healthy the first two games. Just the fact that Carr had a healthy Taysom Hill is at least three third down conversions that sustain drives, which may equate to more points for us and less points for our opponents. But forget the theoretical, here’s the deal: we have no future, ZERO, with Carr, and we know it. We MAY have a future with Rattler. That possibility alone is enough for me to go with Rattler for the remainder of the year in preparation for next year where we will (we “WILL”) have a new head coach and more weapons.
I'm sorry this post is just way to ridiculous to respond to more than this

I get it. You like Carr. It’s not that I don’t but it is time for something else. I’m not in the locker room, but I would put my money on that players feel the same way. I know what Carr’s ceiling is. Don’t you want to see what Rattler’s can be?
They’re having Jake Haener’s baby.

5 out of 10

I don't think he sees the field well at all. Way too many wide-open receivers in his line of sight that he didn't get the ball to. His best plays were single reads. Once they took those away, it got ugly. He doesn't scramble like a guy who is going to be a dynamic playmaker. He's undersized. Very hot and cold with his accuracy.

The interceptions and short-fields helped him a lot in that first half. It could have been much worse.

The response will be that he's a rookie. True. Maybe he gets better or maybe he doesn't. But if we are talking about today's game, nothing said to me he should start the rest of the year and be the future of the team. That's undecided.

Still think we need to draft a top talent instead of hoping we are one of like five teams in the last two decades to find a franchise QB in the 5th round or later.
Your logic is not sensible to me. Any QB you take that you would define as “…a top talent” is someone we have to “HOPE” is the answer. There are just as many expected top talent busts or “didn’t-reach-expected-potential” guys as there are superstars. You’re taking a risk no matter what. For goodness sake, I remember the biggest discussion amongst the talking heads was whether you should take Ryan Leaf or Payton Manning. It was a real, legitimate discussion point. Little did anyone know, it was a 50/50 proposition. No matter what, you’re taking a risk. I’ve seen enough to say that Rattler is worth the risk.

Iif our defense was on like previous we woulda won today with rattler at the helm easy. But defense was atrocious
1st the OP's question was about SR not the D. Yes the played awful , BUT they did give the O a short field on every one of their scores

I think he did very well and could become a solid backup in the NFL, which is saying a lot. Not many players can. However, I believe to take the next step the Sai ts need to invest a high draft choice for a talented young qb coming out in next years draft and groom him for one season behind Carr.

Neither of SR's picks was due to bad OL play, both were just bad throws

Disagree. Carr could have easily had a Falcons-type game today against that defense. There were guys open all day and Rattler just didn't have the experience to find them.

But I might as well be talking to a wall. I get it. No one likes Carr and people want Rattler to be the guy. So it doesn't matter.
It’s not that I don’t like Carr, it’s that I don’t like Dennis Allen, and Carr is Dennis Allen’s QB. Yet another thing is that Carr has NEVER led a team to anything significant, no different than the coach that brought him here. He’s a good guy; a devout Christian might I add. But he’s not the right QB for the Saints, and Dennis Allen is not the right coach.

OK you want a in depth response , DC didn't SEEM better he WAS better. Go look @ his QBR for the 1st 2 games and that had nothing to do with Taysom. it was also with just a healthy OL not even a great one. To say that we have ZERO future as you say it with DC is completely ludicrous, 1st , because you nor anyone else knows the future and 2nd we had PROOF , UNDENIABLE proof that DC can be elite with healthy just average OL
Rattler showed little to think that he's THE future. Now it like almost anything is possible but I wouldn't bet $$$ on it.
We are 6 games into the season not even close to half way but you in your infinite wisdom want to throw away the best chance we have to make the playoffs by starting our 5th rd pick backup QB that did not look great in is 1st start ,EVEN knowing that we WILL be getting our injured players back in the next few weeks
I thank all the stars in the heavens that you are not the GM of the team I have been following since 1967

Carr is a proven qb, however I think the Saints should spend a high draft pick on a legit young qb in next years draft and let him sit one season behind Carr, before taking over.
