Station Eleven (HBO MAX series) (1 Viewer)

ddaaaaannngggggg
Episode 2 hit me in all my places
This might soon be one of my favorite shows
It was kinda funny, I actually thought of you after watching episodes 2 & 3 last night...because of your fondness (like me) for The Leftovers. This show has some similarities, no doubt. They really frame things beautifully in this show. Granted, I came in with no real background/understanding of the source material, but this show has been a wonderful surprise.

The Showrunner was on the staff of The Leftovers (just found that out this morning)
I knew nothing of this show a few days ago and now I can tell I’m going to be an evangelist about it - much to everyone’s chagrin

It’s kinda weird bc this is related to a premise that I’ll be working on with my students next semester- there’s a play call ‘Mr Burns’ and it’s about a group who patch together their post apocalyptic civilization by using their memories of Simpsons episodes
So Station 11 is REALLY speaking to me now

This was a joke right? I can’t believe even you could be so wrong. Authors paint pictures in our minds but if you have watched the story then all the writers efforts to paint are in vain.
Right which is why you go show -> bc the other way is always frustrating since you have to erase what you’ve already painted
Reading after a show means you get to dig deeper into a story you already love

I've always been a "read the book first guy" but you may have converted me. This makes sense. Many times I've been disappointed by a movie or series based on books because it didn't match what i had imagined it and when I really look at it objectively I probably would have rated said movie or tv show as great if I didn't have any preconcieved notions of it in my head from the book.

I loved the first episode, but I think I might have enjoyed ep 3 even more...
It looks like 3 more episodes dump on Thursday, fyi.

Episode 3 had one of the best performances I’ve ever seen
she was phenomenal.

I had missed the posts about Leftovers above, but for episodes 3 and 4, I had been sitting here thinking about how they had the same feel. You know kind of what happened big picture, but still plenty of what the hell stuff going on. Shots and pacing feel similar too.

been thinking a lot about the comparisons - i think the chief difference is how each handle the trauma/tragedy
like for The Leftovers it was front and center all of the time - for station 11 the bad stuff is super sublimated
like everyone in Station 11 is some version of Nora except the prophet who is the GR
