SXSW Bully sucker punch. Justified or cheap? (2 Viewers)

I'm down with people being against the vigilantism or street fight response. Trying to turn the knucklehead into a misunderstood hero who had just cause if we could only have seen a few more minutes of the back story to see that his actions are totally logical and reasonable response that leads directly to what we see is what's completely unfathomable.

Whether or not the second guy's response is truly justified and ok is totally debatable. Whether or not the guy that got knocked out was being a total ***hat is not.

I agree the guy got what he deserved. It's a natural reaction to want that kind of justice.

That said, it's hard to believe something like that can cause serious injury or death unless you've seen it. It happens more than you might think. A family member of mine was in a fight and killed a guy with one punch. He was 16. The other guy was 19, on drugs, and picked the fight. One guy lost his life. The other spent 4 years in jail, losing some of the most formative years of a man's life. No one intended for that to happen.

It aint worth it unless there is no other choice.

Right! And all the praise this guys getting for being a "hero," if the police saw him do what he did, he'd be in jail. No ands, or's or buts to justify it.

Not necessarily, possibly arrested, but very unlikely to be prosecuted.

When I was a kid growing up there'd been a few rapes in the area. A guy in the neighborhood saw a guy by the side of someone else's house looking in the windows. He wound up confronting him and hit him and literally knocked an eyeball out. The victim was later convicted on several of the rapes and no charge was ever brought on the guy who basically sought the guy out and confronted him without being sure; charges weren't even filed on the vigilante.

Should the guy be arrested and prosecuted? I don't think so, but I don't blame anyone for arguing for that. Should the other guy be convicted for assault on the other guys and public intoxication, you bet. Should that first guy in any way be considered an innocent victim? No way. The second guy might be guilty too, but that doesn't exculpate the first for what we clearly see on video.

Once again, we are not trying to turn him into a hero. Who is trying to turn him into a hero? We said he is innocent? Who is saying he isn't guilty? When did I or anyone else say that? I can't sleek for anyone else, but I want to know full details before I just go flying off the handle accusing people before knowing the situation. Maybe those two tried to pick pocket our slap happy friend. Maybe they grabbed his ***. Maybe they tried tripping him. There are a million and one possible directions here but you jump directly to "he got what he deserved for acting like a fool." Are you always this quick at pulling the trigger on someone?

Again, you want to justify his actions. Sad and pointless, and it says a lot about you identifying with him, which makes me glad I don't live in El Centro. You see plenty on the video.

Quit being this guy.

Rape or peeping toms are totally different than some guy pretending to be a bad *** by trying to pick fights with one guy and toying with another. He was out of hand no doubt. But not enough to take him out at this point in my opinion. If that's the case, when someone is acting up and you happen to be armed, why not shoot them? After all they could've hurt someone. Speculating it could've gotten worse that what was shown is just like the scenario I mentioned. It's not plausible unless it happened.

Give me one example of a circumstance where it is OK to punch people in the face who clearly want no part of a fight with you. Who cares what happened before this, you cant just punch people in the face. He clearly wasnt doing it out of self defense, so that makes him a bully.[/QUOT

I have no problem with the sucker punch. The bully got what he deserved, with the punch and the following arrest.

With that being said....last year I was at a Saints game, with my wife smoking a cigarette in the little outside section at the Dome. Some guy, a local fan nonetheless, told my wife he wanted to have sex with her, then told her he wanted her to bend over and hit it from the backside. My wife freaked out, and told him he was a drunk fool. I overheard the whole conversation, walked-up to the dude, and told him what he said was offensive. He then told me he wanted for me to watch him do the aforementioned acts to my wife.

Well, I pushed him away from my wife, and he yelled at me that he didn't want to fight, yet laughed at my wife saying he still wanted to have sex with her. I punched him, square in the face, putting him on the ground. Sorry, I don't care if you want to fight, or not when you verballly assault my wife.

Something to think about in response to your above statement.

What happened after you put his *** on the ground....? Because people like that deserve what they get as well....

Now that my friend is a back story.

And a green thumb for you. :9:

Yeah, and there's an observable difference when you actually are responding to an offense and when you're taunting and bullying. You probably didn't dance and slap at the guy saying stupid stuff: you laid him out directly. What you see from the first guy clearly is different from a guy responding to an affront.

While I understand that this situation is totally messed up, no matter what anyone says to you, it STILL doesn't give you the right to physically assault someone IMHO. Walk away and tell a security guard once you have separated him from your wife and diffused the situation. Fighting for any reason other than for self defense is not manly, its stupid. I wish I would have realized that in my earlier days and saved myself some trouble. Going to jail for laying out someone running their mouth just isnt worth it, trust me. If someone lays hands on someone or is being physically threatening sometimes a fight can't be avoided, but being the person who brings physicality into a disagreement should be avoided at all costs IMO. It may feel good to blow up and hit someone who is not physically threatening anyone, but its just not the right thing to do.
