That non-call may have closed the door on this era of the Saints (1 Viewer)

Actually, we can now run plays that were not part of our game since 2015ish.

Sean changed the offense to support Brees failing arm.

Imagine what we can do now, and Sean believes Jameis has the talent to do it. If he doesnt, QBs coming in the league and making noise the first season....so we have a plethora of options.
I know this will sound ludicrous, asinine, and unrealistic musings of my wish-fulfillment fantasy, but how much do I envy being in a position to draft Zach Wilson in the upcoming April draft? The team's that drafting him is getting the best, most capable NFL-ready QB in a decade since Andrew Luck and his presence, athletic talent, and poise will make any team that drafts him better very quickly. God forbid, almost instantaneously. BYU played in a NCAAF division that was overlooked and underappreciated compared to the PAC-12, ACC, and the all-mighty, all-conquering SEC, so a significant base of causal NCAAF fans didnt have as many opportunities to watch Zach Wilson develop into the maybe next Andrew Luck compared to Tua Tugaviola, Mac Jones, or Justin Fields this past couple of years. Trevor Lawrence had a great, talent-laden squad on both sides of the ball that he inherited from his predecessor and simply (and capably) steered the ship to even further success.

The no-call most certainly closed it and nothing more needs to be said. GODdell and a small number of the richest of the rich among the ownership group have run pro football into the ground.

Like many great ones before him, Drew Brees won't ever be replaced. Best we can hope for is that we won't have wait as long for post-legend success as teams like Buffalo, Miami and Denver have done.

My bad. I still think that Cooks is not consistent enough.

Agree. If he wants to come back at a near-minimum deal, I’d be okay with it. But need more consistency for sure.

I just noticed that I started the day after you did.

Very cool. If I remember correctly, I *think* that’s when they started making you register before posting. I had been lurking unregistered for years going back to IronEra.com.

Always been the best Saints community on the web.

Yes, I had to register, but I was never part of IronEra.

You actually were not right. You posted that in March 2019 and referenced going 7-9. We went 13-3 in 2019 and 12-4 in 2020. So no, you were incorrect that it was over.

Now? Yes, the Drew Brees era ended yesterday. We will see where we go from here. Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis are still here.

My point was the

Nah. It closed then

I wouldn't. And I liked Cooks probably more than most. He catches a lot of TD's, he tends to be a boom or bust type player. I would be surprised if they brought him back because ball security is high on SP's list of player traits....

If Kwon Alexander doesn’t get hurt, I think we beat the Bucs (at least). Maybe get to the super Bowl. That was a huge loss for this team.

This is what I referred to when I made this thread several years ago. It takes a lot of things to come together in order to win a Superbowl - the right cast of players, the right coaches, relatively few injuries, a favorable schedule, and a little luck. Just like 2009, the Saints had it all lined up perfectly that year (even a lot of the same eerie coincidences) but the NFL yanked it from them and it's not a stretch to say that it somewhat changed the legacy of Brees, of Payton, and of course the franchise. After that game was over I knew that was the end. I remember my wife and daughters hugging me because they could tell I was upset...not just over the game but that the amazing run was over (I think a little in all of us died that day as fans.) I think most of us agree that the NFL has never been the same to us since that no-call.

What a great run we have had under Payton and Brees. We were so lucky to have them along for the best ride in our franchise's bleak history. I said it then and I will say it again - I love my Saints and will always pull for them...but man how I loathe what the NFL and Roger Goodell did to my love of football.

It’s too soon to be thinking of this. Drew going out with 1 ring was bad enough, Payton not winning another somehow feels a million times worse.

The hatred I have for Bill Vinovich and that officiating crew has just gotten more intense. Knowing that SOB and his flunkies cost us a Super Bowl by their incompetence and then gets to officiate a Super Bowl the next season is infuriating. How can you have a screw up that big and basically get an additional job perk the next season. It's almost like he was rewarded for his incompetence.

Windows are shut and boarded and all the doors are officially locked.

Replacing a HOF Coach is the hardest thing to do
