The Saints have also probably had among the fewest draft picks over the past 5-10 years

But has anyone yet demonstrated any actual statistical correlation between more draft picks and championships? (I know that wasn't the point of your post, just picking up on the general assumption it's preferable)The Saints have also probably had among the fewest draft picks over the past 5-10 years
The Bucs were pretty damn old when they won the Super Bowl.I didn't know that we currently have the 4th oldest roster in the NFL. This is really due to bad drafting in the early parts of the draft on our part. Guys like Payton Turner, Zach Baun, Adam trautman, and Marcus Davenport have all been busts, or injury riddled up to this point in their careers. 2 aren't even on the team anymore.
The problem is that the saints brain trust knows that some of these players they are drafting are either considered projects and shouldn't be 1st round picks, or that they are injury prone. Yet, they draft them anyway.
Then there's the problem of trading away draft capitol for just 1 player. It's always been a staple that you build a team through the draft with young talent. Then you supplement the rest of the team and it's holes through Free agency. But the saints do it bass ackwards. This usually brings the age numbers up, because you are signing older players.
What bothers me the most is that we have one of the best personnel evaluators in the NFL in Jeff Ireland. Mickey needs to start trusting him and let us start getting younger. And, we will probably need better coaches that are better teachers so that young talent can be developed.
Some of our players are soon going to start to decline and lose a step like:
Cam Jordan
Demario Davis
Tyrun Matthew
James Hurst
Others are going to start to succumb to their injuries as they begin to take a toll on them. Ram, Peat, Winston, Maye and others.
Don't get me wrong. I love this team and think that if things go our way, great things can happen this year. Especially with the schedule we have, and the weakness of our division. Maybe not winning the Superbowl, but getting to the NFC championship game. If the ball can bounce our way for a change, maybe even playing in the big game.
What do y'all think about the age of our roster.
Speculating... Yes, and that person is employed by an NFL team, and that data is considered intellectual property that is subject to a non disclosure agreement. But has anyone yet demonstrated any actual statistical correlation between more draft picks and championships? I say this even as someone who generally favours the idea of trading down.
Hardly likely given that it's freely available information (draft picks, super bowl wins) and could be done by anyone with time, patience and a calculator.Speculating... I think the Trautman bust label is mostly related to us trading up to get him, if we had just selected him without a trade then he might not be criticized as much.I don't know that I would call Baun and Trautman busts.
Trautman filled the Josh Hill / David Thomas role perfect. The problem is everyone is expecting any TE on the field to be Jimmy Graham or Jeremy Shockey, thats not his role.
Baun hasnt been DD or Werner, but again thats not his role. Coming out of the draft Baun was noted for his physical pass rushing ability, yet we keep trying to make him a traditional LB.
Add me to that list. We need a legit starter that’s a threat on that side. Or he can be a rotational player IF Payton Turner steps up and wins the spot. I did a write up a week ago about Clowney. It’s his best position statistically and he also plays at a high level as an ROLB. He’s the missing piece to our D. Sign him on to a 1-2 year deal. I’m surprised we haven’t signed him yet, tbh.Saints A Suggested Landing Spot For Veteran Pass Rusher
The New Orleans Saints are a suggested landing spot for this veteran free agent pass rusher before training camp opens up.www.nflanalysis.net
This guy thinks we should get even older
I'd rather have ngoque (sp). I think clowney is done.Add me to that list. We need a legit starter that’s a threat on that side. I lean towards this option. Then again, TQS gets hammered for not becoming a all pro receiver after being selected late in the third, so Trautman may have never had a chance.
