I never said he was top tier.

The “top tier “ coaches this cycle - Ben Johnson - for example didn’t even consider us.

I’m just saying the DA hire , Carr contract, drafts , FA mistakes etc etc had a long tail.

How many super bowls has Ben Johnson won? 0. McCarthy? 1. Your top tier and mine differ greatly.

Totally agree, and if you don’t, go to the jets nation forum and get their vibe. 90% say that about AG, that they would’ve been conflicted if he was applying for the Dc job much less for head coach. They’re at the point, “at least he wants to come here, I guess let’s hire him”. AG wisely leaked that blurb about wanting to be a jet. Otherwise he might not have had a market. Big Mike is a Sean Payton duplicate except physically. But he’s actually better, he won more conference championship game and has a higher win %. We’ll be totally lucky if Mike takes the job.

Could not care less that Olave wants out. He needs to retire anyways for his own health.

It won’t be popular Max but you speak the truth. I’m hoping for Mike, think he can squeeze a little juice outta this almost dried up orange lol.

I’d say Vrabel was the other top tier.

Look, the job is one of only thirty two in the world, for that reason it’s still a good one imo. Now, having said that it is at the bottom of those thirty two, and folks denying that just can’t take those black and gold glasses off. Nothing wrong with that imo. Fan how ya want.

I don't think we were even going to get one of the most sought after head coaches when Payton left. At that point we had no QB and no real options to get a long term QB. As much as Loomis though that team had a shot, it didn't and others probably knew it didn't. But at the time we all wanted to believe we were just a QB away. The rebuild should have started then, but it didn't. So, here we are.

And we aren't going to get guys like Ben Johnson now because we still don't have a long term answer at QB. But we can still get a good HC. Whether it's McCarthy who is at worst a good HC or we swing for the fences with a guy like Brady hoping he's a great head coach, we have a shot. Doesn't mean it's going to happen and we aren't in a position to get the hot names. But, sometimes that works out.

And the key will be drafting better. We have basically the same scouting staff and scouting people that we had when we drafted better with SP. That tells me that the issue was giving DA the players he wanted. So what we really need is a HC that is better at identifying talent in addition to coaching. But, I don't know who that is. Hopefully we find him.

Todd Bowles, Kevin O'Connell and Mike McDaniel are the only head coaches that ended up being worth a ****from when we hired Allen. I don't think we interviewed any of them. Our mistake wasn't hiring Allen, it was standing by him for so *******long when it was clear he wasn't the answer.

Hell I'm not even sure we were a more attractive job back then. We were still in cap hell with no franchise QB. All I can say is the defensive personnel were better/younger. Ben Johnson wouldn't have come here. We're not getting a tier 1 coach until we have a franchise QB, or we have the free cap to sign one or the head coach can bring his own GM.

Vrabel is another guy that simply cut everyone off once he got an offer from the team he primarily played for. That is virtually always going to happen.

That is fate, destiny, all lining up and the culmination of a player turned coach’s dream scenario. Not you necessarily, but not too many people are fully grasping that. You are essentially angering the football gods by turning down an offer in that scenario.

Let me ask you - is Vrabel top tier over McCarthy? If so, why?

I sure hope we land Mike. Think he’s the best available at this point.
