My question is whose fault is it that we didn’t have a QB ready to take over after Drew retired? The franchise had 20 years or close to 20 years to have someone ready. I don’t know for sure but my guess is Payton. Since we had nobody ready, Sean took the easy way out and said “see ya wouldn’t be ya”. At least that’s what it looks like. Somewhere whether it was the salary cap or whatever, this scouting department forgot how to get good FA’s. Was that Sean also? My gut says Payton made Loomis look good. I’m mad at Sean for bailing on the mess he created. Now, Mickey Mouse is being exposed and I don’t think player evaluation is his forte at all and it’s showing! I think the mouse is a contract guy and nothing more. Just me opinion folks.
Rumormill had it that Payton kept lobbying for Loomis to get certain QB's and Loomis kept failing, trying to always maneuver to get value because they all unfortunately required a trade up. We know of the Mahomes draft fiasco but there apparently was interest in Josh Allen in 2018 draft and of course the rumors surrounding Burrow in 2020 draft that this forum became quite familiar with (that may not have been real). Then there were rumors around Mac Jones in the 2021 draft.
But for whatever reason, the moves never occurred, and we're left speculating why. It's possible its on Payton too. We just don't know. But we do know they were targeting Mahomes and Mac Jones. Low mumbling rumors suggest Josh Allen and loud rumors named Burrow (which also seemed like an impossible move)
