@DaveXA I spoke with my financial advisor today. He said I established my "fixed account" way back in 1997. My fixed account is part of as contract between myself and their company. For this reason my 3% rate is locked in and cannot go down. I am grandfathered in so to speak.
Hmm, interesting. I don't know what he means by "fixed account". I've never heard of a client entering into a contract with a brokerage firm like that. I'm even more baffled, lol.

You talking about a return or a fee?

Hello everyone! I'm a public school teacher. I have been since 1985.
I don't actually have a 401k.
I have a 403b. It seems I started it 1997.
I was told that my 403b functions the same as a 401k....they just give it a different classification name because it is for public school teachers.
Thus when talking about it with anyone but my colleagues or my advisor, I just say "401k" so people can relate. Not trying to deceive anyone....just trying not to confuse anyone.
Maybe my "fixed" account is an annuity.
Here is a recap from earlier...
I said this to him today:
Steve: "True or False sir.......the fixed account I have with your company can never lose principal?"
Advisor: "True"
Steve: " I was on a forum recently where I stated that I have a 3% rate on this fixed account and someone thought that was really good...and they were asking me for more details".
Advisor: " It says here you started your relationship w/ our company way back in 1997. And....Back in 1997 the rates were better than 3%....so we entered into a contract(so to speak) with you...guaranteeing you that you would never have a rate that goes lower than 3% for the life of your time with us".

Yeah, it sounds like an annuity. Also, I'm assuming you mean 3% rate of return.

Yes. Rate of Return.
He said my "Science & Tech" did really well in the past....and 6 months or more from now it will likely do well again.
He named many companies in my fund that I recognized.
Big name Blue Chip companies.
So this obviously is Stock Market based typical 401k style stuff.
We have a face to face appointment for Wed. 1/18 after my school day is done.
He and I will talk about if I should stay the course with this Science & Tech Fund or go in a more predictable / stable direction.

I would suggest asking him if the fixed account is an annuity and separate from your investment accounts. Normally they're separate accounts. Also, yeah, I used to be a self employed minister and had a 403b account.

HSI up 2% already. That’s a China market index. It’s been on a tear since Nov 1.

Goodbye BBBY
I’m really really tempted on it. The vast majority of my realized BBBY gains from last August are still in my account untouched.

They filed a couple of forms today. Delaying earnings information. Canceling the bond deals. Some of the language in the filings almost look copy pasted from the RedBox filings before they got acquired.

I think BBBY is not getting acquired….I think they’ve already been acquired. And I’d be shocked if it didn’t involve Carl Icahn or Ryan Cohen
