The Mandalorian discussion thread (1 Viewer)

Today's episode felt a lot like an episode of Andor, which is necessarily a bad thing. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I watch The Mandalorian for if that makes sense.

Not to me. I think the stuff on Coruscant is going to have a major impact to the overall story.
I agree it will play big time in the show and I believe the overall connected Mando-verse shows, but it felt very drawn out. My wife started playing on her phone and she never takes her eyes off The Mandalorian. It was a slow-burn sort of episode, but slow-burn isn't really this shows thing.

I can see that.

I did too (at least I saw the Jamaal Williams news)
I also didn’t find the “twist” at all surprising.

It was definitely a different type of episode, but I enjoyed it.

I've seen some speculation that the Pershing/Coruscant stuff may be repurposed from the aborted "Rangers of the New Republic" series that got cancelled with Gina Carano got tossed. They said at some point they might work that in to the other shows. I think that one of the reasons this episode feels kind of strange is that it seems wholly unrelated to what is going on in the rest of the show, but also seems very much related to a lot of things that are being set up in the broader "Mandoverse." It wouldn't shock me if these threads are picked up in Ahsoka. And this is all clearly circling back around to Snoke and the attempts to clone Palpatine in the sequel trilogy, however you feel about that.

Anyway-

1. The New Republic isn't very good at being a functional government. This is actually something they've been specifically building across all media. They're not the Empire, but just being not the Empire isn't good enough and it's one of the reasons they'll ultimately fail.

2. "That's too many ships for an Imperial Warlord." Thrawn? Either way, always great to see TIE Interceptors. Always been my favorite TIE variant.

3. Bo-Katan accidentally joined an extremist cult. Interesting that she kept that Mythosaur info to herself. She's going to make a powerplay at some point.

Yes, it will. It looks to me like both The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian are following the Emperor clone narrative, Bad Batch from before his death and Mando after his death.
I didn't really see it as a twist. I assumed she was setting him up all along. Note in the beginning "recap" they repeated the line of having a special job for her. The Doctor was a loose end who could expose the Emperor cloning project, so she eliminated him. She's part of the group who are watching over the Emperor's clone, making sure nothing goes wrong.
Meanwhile, on Bad Batch, we're seeing the team who is working out how to clone him.
Hopefully, the cloning thing is a minor subplot in The Mandalorian. I'm FAR more interested in the recolonization and rebuilding of Mandalore that appears to be coming.
So there was a lot of speculation on sites that Bo Katan would be the villain of season 3, but it looks to me like the real villain is Paz Vizsla. I'm expecting him to challenge Din for the Darksabre again. Probably Din loses because he has such difficulty wielding it; then Bo Katan will challenge Vizsla and regain rightful ownership of the Darksabre. Then she will lead all of them back to Mandalore to reclaim and rebuild their world and culture.

Huh...
Yeah that felt very disjointed and pretty slow--after a crazy good beginning to the episode.
Obviously they are attempting to thread-in some bigger picture/universe stuff, so I am sure it will all pay off down the line. Just felt a little forced.

This is what I was thinking as well, but I couldn’t remember the timeline/if it lined up and didn’t want the other nerds to make fun of me :hihi:

And yes I am definitely including myself in nerds.

I liked it, especially the opening scene....

A couple of questions, mainly, what happened to Bo-Katan's small group of Mandalorians that were with her in S2? Or at least the other female Mando that was with her in the season finale? Is the officer who turned the Dr in to the po-po after raiding the mobile lab a double agent and she turned the dial up to 11 to totally rid the Dr of the knowledge of cloning so he couldn't help the New Republic? I can see Paz and Bo-Katan going at it in the near future, he def didn't look happy to see either of them lol...

Bo says in the first episode that everybody bailed on her after she failed to get the Darksaber and are off working as mercenaries now. I assume that include Koska and Axe (the two Mandalorians that were with her when we first see her).

My read on the thing with Dr. Pershing is that he had knowledge of the Empire's plan to clone Palpatine, or at least knowledge of important parts of the plan even if he didn't know what the end goal was. She was sent in to mind wipe him so the New Republic wouldn't get that information and put 2 and 2 together.
