The Niners and Cowboys wanted Vaccaro badly (1 Viewer)

All speculation. Harbaugh tried recruiting Reid to Stanford when he was there, but was unable to get him. Before the draft Harbaugh told him that he won't have a choice this time, hinting that they were going to draft him.

Either way, both teams got solid upgrades in the safety position. GL this season and we'll see ya in Nola again :mwink:
It's 3 am and you're a 9nerds' fan hanging on a Saints' forum. Just sad. :smilielol:

I live in TN. It's not even 1 over here and I don't have any appointments til the afternoon. I just came over to see what you guys thought about your draft and I saw this thread. I typically don't post, but occasionally I'll have some conversations with the respectable posters here, but I guess they all went to bed.

You should get to bed though, you have school in the morning.

I'd like to think it is because we are a welcoming forum that appreciates intellectual discussion from other fans who know more about their team than we do.

That's just my opinion though.

That's why I stop by. I learned a lot from the discussions you guys had about the 3-4 defense when you guys got Rob Ryan. Read an article linked from here that broke down every aspect of it and even taught me the difference between a 1 gap and a 2 gap DT.

I don't let a bad apple ruin the bunch though. Every forum has those.

The 49ers did not want Vaccaro, they wanted Reid all along. Harbaugh said so and mentioned recruiting him in high school. The reason they moved up is because they were afraid Dallas or Cincy would take him if the Saints were stupid enough not to.

Having the misfortune to live in the Dallas area, I heard the radio clip on Galloway & Company where Jerry Jones' son admitted Reid was on the top of their board but they did not want to take a safety @ 18 if they could get another pick. They seemed completely caught off guard on Sharif and made if fairly evident that they were dead set on trading down, getting another pick, and taking a lineman if they could, which they did.

So no OP, you are wrong on both accounts.

I'm glad we didn't take Jones, I even posted that on a thread about should we take him a few weeks back. I'm glad with who we got, now let's get to work on bringing a 2nd Lombardi to NO.

We all know the Cowboys wanted Vaccaro. I don't need to get into that too much. Jerry Jones pretty much made it known that he was their guy and when we took him, they traded down with their pick.

But does everybody remember this? About 2 days prior to the draft, the Niners were rumored to be wanting to move up to spot 13 or 14.

Report: 49ers ready to move into middle of first round | ProFootballTalk

Well the Jets weren't gonna let go of their 13th pick. They got a very good player in Sheldon Richardson. The Panthers DEFINITELY were not gonna pass up Star. Everybody knows that. So the Niners were really hoping we would take Jarvis Jones, because after us was Buffalo who they didn't need to worry about, but could've been a possible trade partner with them if Vaccaro was still there. They coulda traded with Buffalo to get in front of Dallas.

But the plan fell through. We took Vaccaro. Jerry Jones had a broken heart and traded down. The Niners got desperate because they need a starting safety. So they traded up and reached for Eric Reid.

All of this just makes the Vaccaro pick that much sweeter. We got the guy the Cowboys and the Niners both wanted, and it forced both of them to make bad moves in the first round. They both reached with their picks. Gotta love that.

Or we could have taken Jones and made me really happy...

I've gotten infractions in the past... mainly for not using the search feature. But this is way over the top.

If anyone thinks being a Moderator on ONE OF THE-MOST-(if not the most) POPULAR-SAINTS-FAN BOARD is a cakewalk, just try doing it for 8 hrs; especially when there is breaking news and the SR.com server is on overdrive! :scared:

If someone replied that way to me (and I'm just a lowly member), I'd be ticked-off, and it would ruin my day. Not only that, it's embarrassing. What made it even more egregious is that the statement was made to an S/R Moderator.

The Mods aren't perfect, and we won't always agree with them. But Andrus has gotten a team of Mods/Admin & Techies that have made this site one we can all be proud of. Perfect? No. But certainly at or near the top setting the standard.

It's not that serious... I actually took his comment as a joke.

It was a joke.

As for the 9er fan, all fans are welcome here and we expect everyone to be civil. Enjoy your stay.

It is speculation but it is also putting 2 and 2 together. I can assure you they didn't want to move up to spot 13 or 14 to draft Eric Reid.

No, the speculation was that they wanted to get up to get Richardson. It was also reported that Reid was their top safety on their board. So, I see nothing to indicate they desperately wanted Vaccaro.

Does it really matter what other teams wanted kv? Why do we need validation from the likes of Jerry Jones who's 1st round pick has a lower grade then a player we got in free agency? I would feel better if I found out jj hated kv. Why do we need validation? The only validation I need is Sean Payton and Mickey loomis wanted him

They had Reid rated higher than KV. We drafted KV and they drafted Reid. They started with 13 picks, I'm going also speculate that if they wanted KV they had the ammo to go get him.

You honestly believe they had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro? I don't. Not for one minute. And Jim Harbaugh conveniently saying it AFTER he picked Reid doesn't make me believe it. Of course Harbaugh is gonna say Reid is the best. He also said Michael Crabtree has the best hands he has ever seen. Come on man, open your eyes. They wanted Vaccaro. Everybody knows he was the uncontested top rated safety in the draft. NOBODY had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro. Not even the blindest LSU fans.

That right there is on the money. THe mantra every team says about the guy we picked was the guy we wanted all along is a league wide phenomenon
