The Niners and Cowboys wanted Vaccaro badly (2 Viewers)

You honestly believe they had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro? I don't. Not for one minute. And Jim Harbaugh conveniently saying it AFTER he picked Reid doesn't make me believe it. Of course Harbaugh is gonna say Reid is the best. He also said Michael Crabtree has the best hands he has ever seen. Come on man, open your eyes. They wanted Vaccaro. Everybody knows he was the uncontested top rated safety in the draft. NOBODY had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro. Not even the blindest LSU fans.

Absolutely incorrect. Many teams have players rated differently based on a fit with their team or even just their grading. You have no clue how teams had players rated, so you cannot say that "NOBODY" had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro. We are only privy to a few draft "experts" and hundreds or thousands of fans who are draft bloggers. We don't have the knowledge of the months/years of scouting that each team has on a player. That can easily be proven by the fact that there were teams had Ryan Leaf rated higher than Peyton Manning in 1998.

Lol but your speculation was proven wrong when we selected Vaccaro over Jones. My speculation hasn't been proven wrong. In fact I have evidence to support it. Look back at tthe draft and tell me who the Niners coulda traded up with. They specifically wanted spot 13 or 14 probably because if they moved any higher than that, then they would have to give up more picks. It all makes sense to me. But you can go ahead and believe that Eric Reid was the top safety and Michael Crabtree has the best hands in the world.

How do you know they wanted the 13th or 14th spot? Because you read it on the internet? Have you seen proof where they offered to trade up to 13 or 14? The "rumors" were that the Jets tried to trade out of 13.

The 49ers did not want Vaccaro, they wanted Reid all along. Harbaugh said so and mentioned recruiting him in high school. The reason they moved up is because they were afraid Dallas or Cincy would take him if the Saints were stupid enough not to.

But do you expect Harbaugh to come out and say, "Golly gee, we really wanted that Johnny Vaccaro guy but the Saints took him so we had to jump in and draft Reid before Dallas could."?

You really think that someone from the 49ers gave critical information from their draft to "Jason Cole" from Yahoo sports. :smilielol:

I'm going to go write a blog real quick about Drew Brees being traded to the 49ers for our 7th rounder next year, that way once it's on the internetz it can actually happen. :9:

To be fair though, I personally had Vaccaro higher than Reid, but then other information came out that I posted in this thread earlier that helped me understand the decision making of the 49ers front office. Harbaugh recruited Reid out of High School and Harbaugh hinted to Reid that they were going to get him before the draft. No reason not to believe Harbaugh and the player that was drafted.

If you need to feel like the Saints "stuck it to dem Whiners," then feel free believing it.

Cheers to a hell of an upcoming season!

Lol I appreciate your humor in this. In the end, it doesn't really matter who's right and who's wrong. Its still fun to speculate, and it is definitely fun to stick it to the Whiners. So yes I will continue believing that I'm right. And I will continue picturing Harbaugh in the war room crying "I want Vaccaro" :smilielol:

Word here is that the Cowboys totally freaked when Vaccaro was taken by the Saints. Jerrah traded down and got less than the trade value chart would dictate. Get thos - for all of the Cowboys' picks and UDFA signings, only 1 player - Travis Frederick - is an interior lineman on either side of the ball. Hilarious.

Now, the Niners tone during the draft was weird, because they had an abundance of picks when they already have a loaded roster. But no doubt, they got some guys in Carradine and Lattimore and others.

My whole point of this is basically because I hate Jim Harbaugh. I think Harbaugh has something personal against the Saints to be honest. I guess he is kinda like that with everybody really, but I hate him. And when he had the nerve to say that he thinks they got the best safety in the draft, I didn't like that too much. So I did some investigating of my own, and I remembered the Niners wanted to move in front of us.

Well after looking back at the draft now, I don't see any trade partners for the Niners anywhere in front of us. The teams that traded back didn't trade back far. I love the fact that Harbaugh was probably crying in the war room. "I want cake". Only this time it was "I want Vaccaro" :smilielol: God. I love it. :smilielol:

What i read, and heard (sirius), was that the Niners wanted to trade up around the 15th pick to draft tevon austin

Truth

Can't say how I know, but I know Niners wanted KV. I know none of u know me and have no reason to trust what I'm saying, so be it. They tried to trade with both the Jets and Panthers. They were not trying to get to 13 for Reid. They had one need and it was safety. The niners are a smart organization. They understand draft value. They know what areas players are going to go in the draft. Teams at times do have very different grades on Players. You may have someone rated much higher than other teams. The smart teams will pick the player they have rated higher, but they do it in context to that players draft position. Unless you are the Cowboys. They may have had a first round grade on that player, but a smart organization waits or trades back to get value. The Niners understand that. Even if they had Reid higher, they would not have tried to get to number 13 for him. They wanted a player, that at 13, would have been regarded as being someone who was supposed to be viable at that position. The only safety universally believed to be in that range was KV. As I stated, it's possible for a team to have graded REID as a better prospect, but a smart team would not trade to 9 to get him. And I know one thing, under coach BABY they are at least smart.

MY:tpenny:

I've gotten infractions in the past... mainly for not using the search feature. But this is way over the top.

If anyone thinks being a Moderator on ONE OF THE-MOST-(if not the most) POPULAR-SAINTS-FAN BOARD is a cakewalk, just try doing it for 8 hrs; especially when there is breaking news and the SR.com server is on overdrive! :scared:

If someone replied that way to me (and I'm just a lowly member), I'd be ticked-off, and it would ruin my day. Not only that, it's embarrassing. What made it even more egregious is that the statement was made to an S/R Moderator.

The Mods aren't perfect, and we won't always agree with them. But Andrus has gotten a team of Mods/Admin & Techies that have made this site one we can all be proud of. Perfect? No. But certainly at or near the top setting the standard.

:gosaints:

So wait... This guy makes a simple comment, albeit irritating, that doesn't insult anyone and you give him an infraction??? Then justify it by saying "he said it to a moderator". Humm...

I actually buy that the Niners had Reid as highly as they say. The Niners like to play a lot of coverage and ballhawk - lay the big hit, they're not a team that sends a ton of blitzing pressure. They rely on Smith and Smith for that.

So it's likely they valued a intimidator and hitter that plays a true centerfield role vs. a safety that can come up and cover in man. On the flip side, we saw last season what happens when we try to sit back in zone with this personnel.

Both teams got their guy, IMO. And both of these teams, along with Atlanta and Seattle, should be in the thick of the chase for the top two NFC seeds.

Well, if the Saints did stick it to the Niners, it couldn't have hurt them bad because they had the best draft!! I'm sure Harbough wasn't crying Saturday night.
