The Niners and Cowboys wanted Vaccaro badly (1 Viewer)

You honestly believe they had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro? I don't. Not for one minute. And Jim Harbaugh conveniently saying it AFTER he picked Reid doesn't make me believe it. Of course Harbaugh is gonna say Reid is the best. He also said Michael Crabtree has the best hands he has ever seen. Come on man, open your eyes. They wanted Vaccaro. Everybody knows he was the uncontested top rated safety in the draft. NOBODY had Reid rated higher than Vaccaro. Not even the blindest LSU fans.

Most assumed SP had JJ rated above KV and the Saints also had a need for a pass rusher. It's all just speculation. Your speculation stands and so does mine. Agree to disagree .

Remember when Alex Smith was Harboughs katty? Then he quickly got rid of him when he got hurt. Sean Payton said this is the time of year when everyone says they got their man. Harbough will unravel sooner than later. Having fun is cool but players will see he isn't loyal and be done with him.

I agree they were probably after one of the tackles. The article the OP linked to specifically mentioned finding Justin Smith's eventual replacement.

As for who SF had rated higher, KV or Reid, it could go either way. The absolute consensus among all draft experts was Vaccaro as the best safety. No one disagreed. I think the Cowgirls had him rated higher. Both safeties are physically talented but KV is more consistent. Reid will leave you scratching your head sometimes.

That said, you never know how a TEAM has the players slotted. Every year there are surprise picks b/c teams thing they know something about a player no one else does. Maybe Harbaugh really has a man-crush on Reid. Still doesn't automatically mean Reid is better.

I really can't wait until we play the Niners and they try the option crap KV comes out of nowhere and knocks the crap out of Kaepernick then proceeds to kiss his tattooed bicep.

Lol but your speculation was proven wrong when we selected Vaccaro over Jones. My speculation hasn't been proven wrong. In fact I have evidence to support it. Look back at tthe draft and tell me who the Niners coulda traded up with. They specifically wanted spot 13 or 14 probably because if they moved any higher than that, then they would have to give up more picks. It all makes sense to me. But you can go ahead and believe that Eric Reid was the top safety and Michael Crabtree has the best hands in the world.

I would have to hear it directly from the SF coach or GM before I would believe they would take KV in the first round. Dallas I can believe, they tend to reach.

according to the Steelers fan base up here they were going to pull the trigger on KV on the 16th pick

Eric Reid is no where near a reach. I think he's better than Vicarro. He had a off year last year at LSU, so did the entire LSU defense, but that int he made against Alabama on the road, was one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen. SF got another good safety, dam! I wanted the Saints to draft Reid, but now, lets geaux Vicarro!!!

All speculation. Harbaugh tried recruiting Reid to Stanford when he was there, but was unable to get him. Before the draft Harbaugh told him that he won't have a choice this time, hinting that they were going to draft him.

Either way, both teams got solid upgrades in the safety position. GL this season and we'll see ya in Nola again :mwink:

For all the "omgzz, SF is killing this draft" I've had to see constantly, you guys reached on Reid big time.

I totally agree. However; sometimes it takes awhile to realize that the Kooo-Aid you've been drinking does not taste that good.

This is the most probable team Vaccaro would have ended up, if the Saints pick Jones. The 9rs & Cowboys were on the outside looking in......

I'm glad we picked Vaccaro.

I agree. Was gonna say the exact same thing, verbatim. Some non-Saints friends of mine were actually surprised we chose Vaccaro instead. For me, I trust the Loomis. But it's a reach to call Reid one.

There were some good safeties available when we drafted out of Vaccaro, Reid, Elam, and Cyprien. I think coverage ability and versatility that gave Vaccaro the edge. It will be interesting to see how their career's pan out in comparison.
