Saints The Saints signed S DJ Swearinger and released S T.J. Green (1 Viewer)

He's an "in the box" Safety/LB hybrid that plays the run, and is more enforcer than coverage guy (he also has a reputation for being a "dirty player" or Hard hitting physical player, depending on who he hits and what team he plays for)...

My guess is this move was made because CGJ will be in the concussion protocol for a while... His skill set translates similar to the type of role that CGJ was playing.

Just a guess though, and hope CGJ is back sooner than later.

I hope so too. We'll see if he's DNP or LP today. If he's DNP, then there's a much better chance of him not playing this weekend since it's a short week. The polar opposite of the circumstances surrounding Cook's concussion.

Regardless though, Swearinger is an upgrade over Green and this could be because of Vonn Bell's injury more than CGJ too. We'd signed Green as the depth with Bell out. Difference here is Swearinger has actually played pretty well in the same role as Bell and CGJ where Green hasn't.

or Bell isnt healing quite like they thought

And yes, DJ definitely has a mouth on him. He's very vocal.

Adding him and Janoris def can spice up the locker room that's for sure (not in a bad way or anything, just that those two are more of the outspoken type).

Nice move. With the Addition of him and Janoris the Saints have perhaps the deepest and most talented secondary in the NFC.
And the most initialed group of safeties in football history, all containing the letter "J":

C.J. Gardner-Johnson
J.T. Gray
D.J. Swearinger
T.J. Green

And for good measure, P.J. Williams in the slot and A.J. Klein at linebacker.

Literally no one else on the roster is referred to by initials.
