Saints The Saints signed S DJ Swearinger and released S T.J. Green (3 Viewers)

But also, I had no idea we had a player named, apparently, T.J. Green.
I know we have a JT Gray. But a TJ Green?!?
TJ was the one getting dusted on that last Colts’ drive, #32.

I remember him with the Skins. I didn't realize he moved around the league so much. Is he the guy that picked off Brees on like the first pass of a game in the Super Dome?
Not the very first pass, but it was on the first drive in 2017.

I thought TJ Green had some upside. Drafted in 2016 2nd round, 6’3 215 although we had him playing CB on Monday.

He's an "in the box" Safety/LB hybrid that plays the run, and is more enforcer than coverage guy (he also has a reputation for being a "dirty player" or Hard hitting physical player, depending on who he hits and what team he plays for)...

My guess is this move was made because CGJ will be in the concussion protocol for a while... His skill set translates similar to the type of role that CGJ was playing.

Just a guess though, and hope CGJ is back sooner than later.
Im good if he’s considered a dirty player, better on our team than the team we play. Tired of seeing saints players getting taken out in important games by dirty hits. Maybe we can turn the table on the other team, sweep the leg.

Swearinger was a starter just last year wasn't he? I can see why the move was made since Green isn't someone we want to see playing defense and CGJ is in concussion protocol with Bell still being hurt.

ETA: Swearinger was only drafted in 2013 but has played for like 6 teams since. He played in four games in AZ this year - starting all 4 and playing every snap. Then he was released for some reason I haven't seen mentioned. He had a cup of coffee (one month) in Oakland this year and has been a FA since December 10.

He’s an interesting one. He has played well, has a certain swagger you want on D, at least I do. Plays nasty. Hits hard. But can’t stay on a team. My brother loved him (Skins fan) and I’ve watched a lot of him over the years. Idk why he doesn’t stick as he is very talented.

Nice move. With the Addition of him and Janoris the Saints have perhaps the deepest and most talented secondary in the NFC.

come on man, that's reaching a bit isn't it?:sir-saint:

And the most initialed group of safeties in football history, all containing the letter "J":

C.J. Gardner-Johnson
J.T. Gray
D.J. Swearinger
T.J. Green

And for good measure, P.J. Williams in the slot and A.J. Klein at linebacker.

Literally no one else on the roster is referred to by initials.

J Squad is back.

Swearinger makes Roman Harper look like a coverage Safety. He’s awful in coverage, and from what I can tell, he has a poor attitude.

This move makes me think Vonn Bell is hurt worse than we know, and Gardner-Johnson will be out with a concussion.

Injuries are stacking now... this is awful.

He's been on six teams in seven years for a reason. I wouldn't expect much except depth.
