Opinion The the Saints offensive line has sidelined 4 to 5 starting Saints QBs in the last 4yrs. (2 Viewers)

An OL of our pedigree being this bad is likely more of an indication of disorganization than talent issues. We have seen these guys, this core unit, perform at a high level before.

Our offense as a whole is just a mess.
Very much this. We're also not calling balanced games and not giving them much help. You can call screens and draws to help slow down the pass rushers, we don't do that often enough. Doesn't help that Carr and Winston are both QB's that like to take shots, which is fine when you have some extra blockers on those plays but we don't and they get killed in the process.

And Yet we pick a lineman in the 1st round every year.
Have to pick better lol. Couple of the best we’ve ever had were later picks too.
The line (left side specifically) is horrendous
Right side has sucked too.
Drew made our offensive line look far better than it actually ever was during his time here. Guy absolutely refused to get sacked, and his legendary ability to not only sense pressure but know where all eligible receivers would be at any given moment made some of both our past and present offensive lineman a ton of money.
Been saying this for years lol. Aside from a couple of seasons this this this all day.

I have to say that Jameis getting injured in '21 wasn't on the O-line. That was just bad luck and Devin White being a dirty player like he always has been.
I would say it is split, but more on it being a freak accident. If you remember the play, he scrambled because the pocket got flushed dang near immediately. But yeah, our O-line has been bad for a while now.

This is somewhat true. The playcalling/run game was so much better when he was here though. Also i dont recall many games of him not having a clean pocket to step up into. I dont know if he would have made this oline look good. There are like 3 guys in the backfield half the time. No preparation can beat that.
Even Drew could only do so much. Remember he got his lung collapsed in 2020. And our playoff exits in 2018 and 19 featured our OL getting beat pretty bad.

I have no formal data on this, but it truly has looked bad for a lot of teams this year. My friends who are Giants and Jets fans hate their OLs. From what I saw of the 4Q of PIT-CLE after our MNF win, PIT was chasing Deshaun into Lake Erie.
The Giants have the lowest paid OL in the league, the Jets are 10th cheapest, at least they aren’t overpaying if it’s that bad.

Take it for what it's worth. Let's look at the decline in line play, which I think all can agree, currently sucks.

2019 PFF final line rankings= 5th
2020 PFF final line rankings= 8th
2021 PFF final line rankings= 18th
2022 PFF final line rankings= 21st
2023 PFF ranking to date= 23rd, probably going to slip after today.

What happened between 8th and 18th? Coaching? Sure Brees helped with some of this.

Roushar coached the line in 2019
Roushar coached the line in 2020
Then Nugent came in during the 2021 season and things declined.
Then Marrone came in during the 2022 season and is current coach.

I would say coaching is a part of the decline. Along with the other factors ya'll are discussing such as injuries and personnel.

Roushar is now at Tulane who had an outstanding year last year with great line play. No doubt he knows what he is doing.

Let's get this guy back.

Brees helped with all of that! Brees knew he was going quick pre-snap so he never really looked deep. He took 3-10 yard completions all game.

Oh they’re taking plenty of shots alright lol.

@DJ1BigTymer the answer to your huh, is that Brees did help the line a lot, but it wasn't all on him. That's not giving the line or the coach credit.

Roushar had a great year at Tulane last year- clearly the man knows what he is doing.

Didn't know Brees was under center at Tulane.

Come on man, give the coach credit.
Huh? You said
