The Thing People Don't Say Taysom Hill (3 Viewers)

Great info. I think it's been clear for almost 3 years that most of our successful drives in that time frame are ones where Taysom received multiple touches. I've said it for the last couple of years I truly wish they would have just committed to Hill being QB and just let him be the dual threat that he is. I truly think that every season would have been more successful going that route. Maybe not a Super Bowl team or even a Conference Championship but they would have been a playoff team.
This regime sez they can't figure out how to use AK, how in the heck are they going to figure out how to use TH as a fulltime QB???

He's 33 years old! Thats amazing when you consider how physical he plays, how fast he is, how versatile he is, etc. He plays with the physicality of a man in his prime years, which at 33, most NFL players are past.

I don't want to get out of hand, but when you consider the term "football player", I challenge anyone to name one better, who can contribute in so many ways. He's one of the NFL's most special players and contributors in decades. I think the national media greatly discounts just how good and important he is/has been to the Saints.
wow, i forgot about that. The fact that he improved 100% from one year to the next as a WR is amazing, what if we had been patient and gave him all of the reps last year and this year as QB1, where would we be? Yes i said it.

Love Taysom. His physical style of running and poor deep ball means he will never be a 17 game QB. But, he is our best redzone threat inside the 10. No QB wants the be the starter between the 10s only to be taken out for TDs. I have no clue why we didn't use Hill on the last 4 plays of the Jax game. I'm guessing.... Carr walking away yelling at the coaches and ignoring Winston on the final 4 plays may have been about play-calling and specifically Hill's usage.. He's my favorite Saint on offense. I wish we used Hill more in the backfield next to Carr for blitz pick-up and checkdowns with Kamara wide or motioned out.

You won't find any argument from me. He's one of my all time favorite Saints. If we would have won a super bowl or two with him he had a legit shot at the Hall of Fame for his versatility imo. Imagine if John Madden would have called his games. You think he drooled over Brett Favre?

What's really amazing is Taysom's big-play ability, especially for a guy who is used in so many short-yardage situations.

Kamara: 1,204 carries, 5 40+ yard runs
Hill: 346 carries, 4 40+ yard runs

Taysom Hill has a career rushing average of 5.5 yards per attempt. That's amazing cconsidering he is often used in short yardage and/or goal line situations, such as  his 1 yard touchdown run against the Jaguars which drives down his yards per carry average, especially on  the limited amount of attempts he gets.

Even Taysom haters would have to admit that the offense would be hard pressed to be any worse than it's been with Taysom at QB. But here's the deal, going with Taysom at QB full time would take some imagination. The offense would need to be changed to suit his strengths. The problem is that we don't have an OC like Greg Roman who is willing to think outside of the box.

If nothing else it would've been fun to watch.
You hire Brian Johnson as HC and switch to Taysom. That would be interesting

Tayson Hill is the ONLY Player In NFL History to have a season at the age of 30 or Older, to average 5 yards or more per carry more than once (SteveYoung the only other player to do so, did it once). TH7 has done so 3 times already and could possibly do it again for the 4th time this year.

In 2020, at the age of 30, he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. In 2021, at the age of 31, he averaged 5.3 yards per carry. In 2022, at the age of 32, he averaged 6.0 yards per carry. So far in 2023, at the age of 33, he is averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

If his role didn't include goal line and short yardage plays his average would be even higher.

I’m starting to come to the conclusion with RBs or guys like him that it’s more about touches than sheer age. Every touch is taking plays off of a player’s career.

For a guy like Taysom, he’s relatively limited on number of touches per game, so he has more tread left on his tires than most 33 year olds.

He made a heck of a leaping catch in between 2 defenders for a 19 yard pickup for a 1st down on the Saints final drive against the Jaguars.
Thats would be a leaping grab or high radius catch, if one of those defenders gets a couple fingers in there he's not catching it.

He’s also a Bo Jackson/Herschel Walker type of freak athlete that will probably still be able to run a 4.7 forty when he is 50.

How hard is it to give credit where credit is due?

Even  IF one of those defenders had gotten a couple of fingers in there, we don't know whether he's catching it or not, because it didn't happen.

Hill was targeted 5 times against the Jaguars, made 4 catches for 50 yards with zero drops, while having only the 5th most targets in the game.
