Do you guys think the Derek Carr we saw the last 4 weeks of the season is a more accurate of an assessment of his ability or the first 13 weeks. In other words do you guys think with the right OC and a better line can expect more of a complete and better qb or is that pie in the sky thinking?

I think what you saw all season is who he is. He's always been inconsistent but he is capable of being very good at times and not very good at times. Hopefully a new scheme that is designed to give a QB more easy reads and get rid of the ball quicker will help him be more consistently good. But, I think he greatest strength is the deep ball so they will need to get him some help on the OL to give him time to get those off.

To me...it's hard to tell. I know that Pete did call more motion and playaction which helped Carr and they were still in the playoff race at that time, beat a playoff team in the Bucs but it's still hard to say. The oline blocked better too...just don't know. 2 games...either win the GB game or Rams game and Saints would have been in the playoffs.

This was informative. Now i see why we went after a Shanahan type. Dc wants the running game to open up the middle play actiom throws. He also admits that DA did ask him for Input. So Mickey wasn’t truthful about that. I think it’s time we as a fan base get behind Carr. His haters are just spoiled pissy Saints fans that refuse to lower their expectations. To the OP, Carr answers your question. To paraphrase, he said that we finally came together as a team on the same page, and are genuinely excited for next year. So I’ll roll with that vibe too.

I am not hard on Carr like most people on here. But I do think he is who he is. He won't be great and won't be the guy who can lead a teams on his own. Always have felt that way about him. Right now unless we draft a quarterback of the future, he is the best options we have at quarterback. These last 5 or 6 games, does not give me any optimism nor pessimism. Just hope next season bring better results.

My take as someone that lives near Oakland and has watched a lot of Raiders games. I think all of what we saw was who Derek Carr is. I think he has some natural ability, but I don't think he's particularly football smart when things are flying around. He won't really be the reason the team loses games and can win you a couple. But he's going to miss reads, not get through progressions every time, make bad choices and have bad games every season. He's also going to have a game or two where he completes 75% of his passes for 3 TDs and no INTs. That is who he has been and will continue to be.

According to Triplett, over the last 6 games Carr had a 75% completion percentage and a 117 QB rating. That's a pretty good sample size especially considering Olave and Saheed only had 1 season under their belts coming into this season. There was certainly a lot of blame to go around, but you're just not going to get consistent play when your top 3 receivers have a combined 2 years in the league.

Who knows how he will do with a new OC. But I would expect there to not be the same disconnect between Carr and the receivers that we saw early in the season in 2024. I think there's a lot of reasons to be optimistic.

Drew was the GOAT. That's not coming back. So if it's GOAT level of play or whine? Just go fishing.

It'll be year two in the building, but year one with the new Offensive Coordinator. He could improve, he could regress, or he could just be the same guy we had this season. Hard for me to believe that there's going to be some magnificent turnaround without at least another weapon and an improved OL.

He will be at the mercy of the OL, he played better when we were able to keep him clean.

Also, it will be interesting to see if they can convert him from a guy who makes calls at the line to a guy who executes the play as called. In the Vikings game I watched earlier, the commentator talked about how Kubiak’s calls had built in answers for what the defense threw at the QB. Carr allegedly hated that about McDaniels’ system, but more of that was probably just hatred for McDaniels (seems to be a common occurrence).

I think he can be a solid quarterback when everything else around him is solid. He’s not going to carry the team often like HOF quarterbacks. He didn’t have jaw dropping yardage but he also didn’t throw many interceptions. We also have to consider that the oline was mostly made of 2nd and third stringers the majority of the season. Allen didn’t exactly set him up for success.
