I think a good GM should have better planned for the future rather than do what you described as “pick up the pieces “ when his bell cows retired and especially when your mono-theme when promoting Allen was that this roster and post-Payton coaching staff were still legitimately in a championship window.

Let’s be real, real. There is no window. There never was. Thats a fallacy. This team cannot operate that way. Teams that use the “window” principle, are able to dump a ton of starters and rebuild. Then when they have a ton of cap space and a good core of players, then they can go on a spending spree going all in it to win it. The salary cap can kicking prevents this idea. So it’s always going to be cut one or two players and pick up one or two players and hopefully nail the draft. I’ve seen so many fan led podcasts on YouTube, and there is this hatred vibe from the fans toward ML. It’s all uncalled for. Because if they took the time to think it thru and empathize, they’d probably make the same decisions.

We all had high and unrealistic expectations. You cant expect a non hall of fame coach and a non hall of fame Qb to perform like HoF ones. Disappointment is a symptom (or negative outcome) of an expectation. Too high or unrealistic expectations leads to chronic disappointment. Chronic disappointment leads to fans constantly bashing the team because didn't meet their unrealistic expectation. Like I said we’re all guilty of it.

Making the playoffs and winning the division with perhaps the easiest schedule in the NFL and in the weakest division with a pretty solid roster and the HC's hand picked QB (a 10 year vet) is an unrealistic expectation?

Sell that BS elsewhere.....Also, there is a strong possibility IMO that Loomis is the reason CSP is not here any longer.....but we may never find out what really happened.....

The fans aren't guilty of anything, they know a poorly coached team, ill-prepared leaderless team when they see it....and while we finished well (yeah!!!!) that team showed up way too often when it counted last year....

They played the Giants, Rams, Bucs and Falcons. They got beat by the Rams pretty soundly although Carr did a serviceable job.

I'm in the anomaly group as of now. If he and the team can play like they did those last four games against the Chiefs, Broncos, Cowboys and so on, then my tune will change but playing like that against inferior teams does not make it a true picture.

Sean Payton with Drew Brees was just THAT good. They are gone. Whats left are pieces. Some good pieces, some old but good pieces. But overall, average pieces. If you pit an average team vs another average team, your win % will be around .500. The fans including me expected the Saints to be better than average but not as good as Sean/Brees. The FO and the fans expectation was wrong. Theres no one to hate over it. It just is what it is. I think the only time to get mad at the FO is if they are not trying to correct their mistakes and progress. If it were me, we'd all be watching Harbaughs introductory speech live on Airline HWY. But we arent. So this tells me they arent 100% in it to win. But at least they are trying to improve, marginally. And its pretty clear that if DA dosnt make the playoffs that hes a deadman walking. So they are in it to win it, within reason. Think abiout it, whats easier? Winning a superbowl year after year after year, having to replacce your poached staff and players constantly or being slightly abover average where the fans are still engaged, and your offseason is quiet? I think the latter is the true target. LSU Scott Woodward, went out like a madman and snagged Brian Kelly whio was cemented in place at Notre Dame. Or doing similar and getting Maulkey. THOSE are examples of win at ALL costs. We're trying to win with the pieces we have.

yea, to me those last few wins are like garbage time wins. It was nice that it gave us a false glimmer of hope, but haven't we been seeing that every year since playoff Sean left? Kinda like the Pels, they destroy weak teams then get run by the real teams.

Do you guys think the Derek Carr we saw the last 4 weeks of the season is a more accurate of an assessment of his ability or the first 13 weeks. In other words do you guys think with the right OC and a better line can expect more of a complete and better qb or is that pie in the sky thinking?

Like most things in life, the answer's likely somewhere in the middle. That being said, you won't ever see a version of Derek Carr that carries the team. It doesn't exist.

We're in the same boat. My optimistic side saw us winning a playoff game. But reality showed me what you said, that we cannot beat even the average teams when it counts. To me this is not an anomaly that time on task can heal. This is who we are under their current leadership. A team is supposed to look forward to the challenging games, so they can show the world that they mean business. You either mean business or you do not mean business. Micky doesn't want to view it that way, he wants to view it like we're 9-8. One piece here, one coach there, will make the difference. Not unless Klint Kubiak is really Clint Eastwood at heart.

I think there were a lot of people that excused Jameis for his play while he was injured and it was a point of contention around here. Same with Carr this year. I know sports are competitive and you never want your backup to see the field, but I think both of them selfishly hurt the team while playing with those injuries. Drew did that a couple of times as well, but I think he earned a bit more rope than these guys had.

Well I mean the games he got knocked out of it’s not like Jameis came in and dominated. Packers, Vikings, Lions…we lost them all. I think we win 1 or 2 if Carr doesn’t get knocked out. Maybe an injured Carr gives us as good or a better chance.

Love him or hate him you have to give it to him, he is a tough competitive Son of a gun. Do I think he is the next Brees, No. Do I think he can be a game manager most of the time and sneak in a big one here and there, yes I do. Fix the line, fix the run game and keep those receivers healthy and we will be in the playoffs next year!

25/8 TD/INT ratio or 3.13 which has him 6th best in the league

We care about completion percentage right?
His completion percentage of 68.4% ranks him 5th in the league for QBs with over 100 attempts.

Did he take too many sacks?
His sack rate of 5.5% is 9th best of QBs with at least 200 snaps.

Okay what’s his passer rating?
97.7% which is 10th best in the league (min 200 snaps)

The only stats he doesn’t shine in, yards per game (15th) and yards per attempt (14th). Still good.

I’m not sure what everyone was expecting from Carr this season, but if you told me before the season he would have the numbers I listed above, would you have taken it? Of course you would. And you would sign up to take it next year too.

It’s easy to watch a YouTube video after a loss and form an opinion that the guy sucks because he missed a read. The stretch during the losing streak where he had been knocked out of a game twice, fans are booing him, the yelling at players and coaches, all that helped you form your opinion. But look at the whole body of work and compare to the NFL competition.

Carr was far from the problem, the numbers speak for themselves.

Even if you’re not a stats guy (and if this describes you I’m sure you think Drew Brees was overrated) Carr never had a choke moment, he consistently came through in the clutch when the lights were brightest. He played with heart.

This is the same fan base that will tell you how great Archie Manning was despite him playing on terrible teams but turn around and tell you that Carr has been mediocre his entire career despite the fact that this year was his first year ever to play on a team with a top 20 defense.

Instead of digging in on an opinion you developed in week 8, step back and evaluate the total picture. It’s okay to that you were wrong to boo him. It’s just time to admit it and forgive yourself.

Nowhere to go but up, IMO. He is a better QB than those first 12 weeks showed and I think he can be more consistent with a decent scheme and situational play calling. IMO no QB would really excel in the garbage offensive scheme we had the last 2 years. I am not excited at all by Carr but he is here for a few years and I am curious to see the new offense next year.
