This was Carr/offense’s best game and their turning point (1 Viewer)

A fair complaint, but also true that Carr is never going to make the right read every play because he's not an elite QB and never will be.

We have to play team football to win at this point.

Agree, almost indirectly trying to make that point with my post. If he was relatively mistake free for the first three quarters and then for the remainder of the game, we can’t ask much more from him
What’s funny is that incomplete pass to Juwan in contested coverage was such a good throw that I knew Carr was not gonna let us lose this game. He was dialed in and his passes all game long (minus one or two) were just perfectly thrown accurate balls. Felt like we were watching Brees out there for a second.

Finally all the stars aligned. The Colts have the 3rd worst defense in the league and a journeyman QB at the helm. This was a game the Saints were supposed to win on paper and did. They looked good yesterday. Turned the corner and back in business is something yet to be seen. One small step in the positive direction. My only complaint yesterday was the penalties. Those can lose you a game. Also, our kicker didn't miss but they sure came close at times. Great Job Saints and thanks from keeping us from walking off the edge.

We did what we were supposed to do
And yet 5 of their last 6 games were one-score affairs. Had they not gotten absolutely screwed by the refs the week before our game, they'd have beaten the Browns and won four of their last six. They are not a roll-over team.

We did what we were supposed to do. Also, the stats are completely misleading as to how tough of a game it was.

I still haven't figured out how we keep squandering one of the best home field advantages in the league. We really do need to get back to winning consistently in the Dome.

We can do a lot for our confidence by playing well at home vs the Bears...then playing an ailing Vikings team... couple weeks later the Dome should be rocking when we play the Falcons
A couple weeks later the Dome will be silent when we play the Falcons, because its in Atlanta.

ISo what
Do you even like watching the saints?
That was a good game.
Good teams have lost to bad teams this year.
We were 2 teams with similar records and we won.
Try to enjoy it
We've gone through this literally 3 weeks ago, we beat the brakes off a bad team, thought we were good....then laid 2 eggs.

So forgive me if I don't share the optimism after beating a Gardner Minschew led Colts team...the same QB who led the SB appearing Eagles against us in a L last year vs a Dalton led team. I knew we were going to win v Colts going into it.

I can tell you exactly whats goint to happen here...we're going to win just enough this year to think DA and PC and Carr are a thing to build on...then next year we're going to find ourselves asking the same questions that were asking this year because we won't play a cupcake schedule.

Carmichael’s playcalling was consistently good all game.

I think he had help, additional input from Curry and/or some of the players....

This could have been a turning point game, it also could have been another fools gold win.

Yup, if they can string together a few wins including beating the Falcons I will start to believe there is a turnaround, hope so, they failed to build on the Patriot win, hopefully they will with this one....we will see...

They got back to running MT on slant plays, they attacked the middle of the field, Kamara has his option routes out of the back field again and we used Olave and Shaheed in the deep passing game.

Everybody got used to their strength and the offense looked explosive because of it.

Yup, spot on, I think Pete had some input this week from other folks, there is no other way to explain it, the play-calling was way better than it had been all year....

I find it funny that every time the play calling is good, someone else did it, but if it’s bad it’s because PC didn’t take any input from anyone. It makes zero sense and is 100% rooted in confirmation bias.

The real difference is when your line is blocking and the early play calls are working, you can start to set up the next play and things will look more planned. The sequential play calling that everyone craves.

When your OL is getting wrecked and you’re trying to set up some future calls off an outside zone look when your outside zone runs lost yards for the third time in a row, it will look like we have no plan. You can’t set up the next play if the first one gets blown up.

Another contributor was Carr actually working his progressions, which was enabled by him having more time. If he throws 20+ yard desperation throws on third and short over and over, that’s not due to the play design as much as it is due to the QB pressing. When he instead starts hitting guys in the progression on time running the same plays we’ve run for weeks, it looks like some grand new plan was installed, when for the most part we just executed better than we have practically all year.

The Colts have let up more points than anyone in the league. This was homecoming. This was a slump-buster… so let’s hope this gives our offense the confidence to play better!!

The play calling was definitely better… maybe Pete was feeling the heat! 🥵

Of course, I don't disagree there are many factors that make an offense successful, offensive line and QB play being absolutely key.....

But the play calling and personnel groupings were markedly different than in the past, they obviously used TH correctly for probably the first time this year.....and many of the 3rd down plays were throws designed to get 1st downs, just at or past the sticks.....

I never said there was a "grand, new plan installed", but tweaks and input from different/better sources (Curry, Carr, AK, CGM, etc) is what I suspect and believe, not claiming I know....

Another factor could be the Colts D is not good, I'm hoping that is less a factor than the others.....we will see.....

We did what we were supposed to do
Right? I liked what I saw yesterday, excepting a few plays, but we should have moved the ball and scored points against the Colts D.

Using Payton’s terminology, I want to see us stack some wins with our offense being efficient/effective and then I will say we are there.

It’s nice to not have to discuss another crime scene all week though.

Everybody wants to be first to say something was something. How about we let thr season play out one way or another and if we did string together 8-9 wins starting yesterday then we can come back and say that the Colts were our turning point.

But let it be just what it was....a win. There isn't a trophy for "I predicted it first" <- I of all people know it ain't a thing (I'd be up to my neck in trophies)
