TIL: Today I Learned... (7 Viewers)

TIL, or was reminded just how idiotically partisan and self-righteous some demagogues who used to be in groups or positions of power but are bitter and vindictative totally become the very same people they claim to hate and despise sometimes on very next question, using the same, evasive bullshirt rhetoric that millions of Americans loathe and hate maternal fornicators like them in the first place but their too stupid, blind, or narrow-minded to realize their part of the larger set of problems.

And dumb, clueless bimbos on cable TV shows just star obliviously right back at them, unquestioning in their assent or silent agreement or filled with the same elitism, snide contempt being aired at them in the face. All apart of supposedly, "Keeping them honest", bullshirt, meaningless set of statements.

While reading about the closing of "The Belle Chase Car Wash"
TIL that the Highway 11 bridge was originally a toll bridge.

"The bridge opened on February 18, 1928, as the first permanent crossing of Lake Pontchartrain.
The bridge was originally a toll structure, costing $1.25 for a motor vehicle with one driver plus ten cents for each additional passenger."

That toll is bonkers!

The Maple Street bridge in Spokane went from a dime to a quarter and the payoff date was delayed by years because people stopped using it.

$1.25 in the 20's? They just didn't want to ever pay it off, did they?

Thank you for your understanding and sincerity on this matter.

But seriously Guido, occasionally this thread does do wonders if it helps serve as a "sounding board" to air or announce some personal or professional grievances or criticize certain people for their stupid, inane, clueless mistakes, actions or statements, as long as its general-sounding enough, don't get overly specific, and don't name names.

Particularly if you learn or have some epiphany about the context or circumstances surrounding them making these statements or their role in it. It is amazing just how many people end up not having many epiphanies in life or if they do, they fail utterly to recognize the significance of it or stubbornly refuse to believe it ever happened to them throughout the course of their lives?

Epiphany is a sudden, life-changing realization, but at the same time, for a lot of people, its effects can end up being remarkably temporary because in some people's cases, what they finally realize their capable of isn't realistic even in the long-term or its impractical or can't be easily achieved. It's like having the most wonderful idea in the world but hardly any money, collateral, intellectual or creative willpower or help to make these dreams even seem sensible or plausible other then just a series of extremely vague, "wild-sounding" ideas, scientifically or philosophically like Rene Descartes' Cartesian Dualism or his Evil Demon argument living a homeless, penniless vagrant on the streets in 17th century Amsterdam.

When you look deeper Gov Huey Long tried to buy it for the state, but the owners refused, so Gov Long funded the bridges on what is now Hwy 90, and a few years after the state bought the Hwy 11 bridge for less than 1 mil.

Today I learned to take diabetes more seriously. I’m Type 2 and it was discovered last year when I had a stroke. Anyway, I go to the gym three days a week and work out with a personal trainer for 30 minutes. Nothing too strenuous as my balance isn’t as good as it should be and neither is my coordination. I was doing intervals, 2 minutes on ski machine followed by one minute of rest then two minutes on a stationary bike followed by a minute of rest then two strength exercises. I made it through one round. I got dizzy, weak, and my balance was very bad. I had to call my wife to come get me and drive me home.
The lesson I learned was that I need to eat some sort of breakfast before any activity and don’t skip meals. It took all day Friday and all of Saturday to recover.
What do you eat?

TIL that some people have to draw stuff out dramatically instead of simply getting to the point.
Most people have no trouble saying what they mean by getting to the point but that could entail using some very aggressive language that comes across as nasty and mean, and lead to a very long, protracted shouting match which eventually leads to the mods coming in by closing the thread or fining those SR posters involved. I've witnessed that happen on more then a few threads in my over 20-year presence as a SR.com member and poster.

Saying some things a little more discreetly and artfully may sound "dramatic" but it does come across as being more diplomatic, nicer-sounding, and far less likely posters will be using figurative knives with their words or responses.

You just validated his/her point.

You just validated his/her point.
If you’ve been reading some of the threads regarding Israel/Gaza and how nasty, pointed and personal some of the responses for, a few of those forking posters got banned or fined for “saying what they mean” and got to the point abundantly clear like in shouting matches all up and down the place. If Bigdaddy or you were to insult me in some thread and got too personal, and I end up reporting both of you, yeah, sure you told how you feel, how did that end up for you? You’re both in banned camp or fined.

I could be very direct with you right now and call you out and make it personal by saying “what I’d really think” but considering this board has guidelines strictly prohibiting that, I make my point a little more creatively and intelligently so I don’t come across like a partisan butt crevasse looking for a fight and when it gets too nasty and heated, I get sent to banned camp. Sometimes on public forums, really saying what you mean in no uncertain terms gets you kicked off or banned and trust me, Grumpy, I have come across a lot of people on other boards as well as this one occasionally that are way too sensitive to discuss serious, complex issues, they don’t take criticism well and there’s been a few times on other sports forums, some posters resorting to threats.

Given the options, my choice is to remain diplomatic and civil, If I can. I can say what I really mean some other way.
