Trade Derek Carr before the deadline! (4 Viewers)

His $10 million roster bonus was guaranteed last March, so that isn't going away. The post June 1st $30 million in cap savings wouldn't be available until June and we have to do something with it before the league year starts in March.
I don't disagree that it would be painful, but this team has to stop sacrificing the future to extend mediocrity. The culture has to change, and keeping guys around because you can't affort to cut them is part of the culture problem the team currently has. If that means they can only afford players on league minimum contracts for one year to clear the damage, so be it.

Totally, we agree on all of that. I'm just saying Carr isn't the player whose contract you can do that with. There are others that you can strip away, get under the cap and get objectively worse at football with league minimum guys. Carr is going to be restructured. I don't think we get under the $80 million and have room for a draft class without it.

Am in the only one who would like to see Derek Carr traded away tomorrow? We need to start this house cleaning now. This could happen, but i am not sure anyone would take DC......sadly
If we could get anything for him - including a 7th rd pick - I'd take it. But, with his price tag, injury history, and lack of any real success, no one will want him.

It's so frustrating that they've boxed themselves in like this.

Is he really better than Joe Flacco?
No.

Flacco has won a SB and had multiple playoff runs. He's accountable and not despised.

The Carr family is a disaster. Anyone who lived through the Houston Carr years knows that David/Derek will throw everyone under the bus as they flame out. They're like the opposite of the Mannings.

Cap penalty makes him untradeable. I mean Payton cut Russ and ate 89 mil or something crazy like that, but Carr's penalty is way bigger. If you're willing to eat that cap hit then I'm 100% onboard. you're not competing for a title in the next couple years anyway. Eat all the penalties you can eat and trade/cut who you can so we can start this rebuild.

I hated David Carr. He was shoved down the throats of sports fans in Houston.

Yes, the Saints might as well eat it. Keeping players who are unable to perform will just hinder the evaluation process.

They could decide to mutually part ways, I mean DA was the reason he came to NO and since he is not here and the team maybe headed in another direction with Rattler and Haener behind him we minus well just scrap the "soft" rebuild and go full rebuild and start trading vets and adding young draft picks on rookie deals with an eye toward the future.

As many have already stated, his contract and our cap situation (and his no-trade clause) leaves him untradable. Loomis just re-worked his contract adding more void years to it. Can't cut him for at least 1 more year (at least), can't trade him for at least 1 more year and the Saints are almost 70 million over the cap for next season without accelerating Carr's HUGE dead cap hit.

Whether he's cut or traded doesn't matter... they'll incur a penalty regardless. We're 89 mil in the hole now (per Orlovsky) that's just crazy.

Neither Rattler nor Haener is ready. And how much dead money would accrue?
it would make sense to bench Carr and let the rookies fight it out. That way it wont appear like we're tanking and we can see if we need to take a QB this draft.

Carr is an upgrade at QB for at least a dozen teams, but he has a no trade clause, and probably doesn't want to move his family just to be traded to a new middle or worse football team.
There’s one way to get him to move. Have CGM buy the house next door
