Training Camp QB competition thread [MERGED] (1 Viewer)

I think there's been a ton of us overlooking the fact that quarterback or not, Taysom Hill is a very important part of this team. He was promised and earned and deserved a more than fair shot, but the writing is on the wall.

In all honesty, I hope he continues to be the swiss army knife for as long as he can do it. He's a great guy by all measure and a great teammate and leader. He should help us win and make himself secure forever playing a unique and important role that gives SP options.

I respect the spirt of competition for Taysom and that he is fighting until the very end, until Sean literally tells him it's gonna be JW and not him.

But, it feels like there is an elephant in the room that is Taysom's general attitude about the competition process. To anyone watching it feels like this is over, and if SP is legit having to tiptoe to avoid losing TH as an All-In guy in a non QB1 role then that speaks poorly on TH. You would hope he would react how Jameis did last year when TH got picked to replace Drew over him.

Bingo. This is my sense as well. All you guys who are saying Taysom will just go back to the joker role aren't seeing what I am. I think he made up his mind he wants to be a QB and will have a hard time adjusting to his old role, both mentally and physically.

I think there is a potential attitude adjustment that will have to be made or he'll be traded. My 2 cents.

Eh... It's an emotional sport. You ask yourself if you was inches away from achieving your dream for it to be over in a matter of minutes on your birthday. Would you handle it well...? Probably not. Being delicate in this situation is for the best.

I do not thing there is a big market for him this close to the season starting, if he is essentially telling coaches he is "ride or die" as a QB only.

I think a lot of this is just speculation, A guy like Taysom would not have the reputation he has as a character guy and leader if he is acting like a spoiled baby boy because there is another QB on the roster that is better than him.

Yes, he is a respected member of this team but I feel like something else is going on. By all accounts, Taysom has been treated with respect and came into camp as QB1A. Payton said he was going to rotate the guys and he did that, even after Monday he was still apparently running with the 1s at Tuesday's practice. Does he have a fragile ego? Is Sean trying to keep his head in the game in case he needs to pull Jameis? What does the team (players) know that the public doesn't know?

Unnamed sources are saying that there is no QB controversy regarding ability on the field, the concerns are extrinsic to throwing and running with the football. In spite of that, Winston is still likely to win the QB job.

Is Sean just trying to keep things cloudy for as long as possible, so that the Packers have to at least spend some time game planning for Hill behind center in addition to Winston? We all know CSP loves a good smoke screen and loves to mislead the press about stuff like this.

I get you. I agree I really like him as a person from what I've seen. All I know is his body language did not look right in that last game. As Taker said, it's an emotional game and probably too harsh on my part to judge him based on TV broadcasts. I mean, he knew he had a rough performance.

With all of this said, I still don't think he's going to go back to his old role without a lot of 'therapeutic' effort.

I agree which is why I do not want to knock the guy. However, has Payton really been honest with him about his deficiencies?

I agree and I do think Taysom will still be used situational in short-yardage situations. However, everyone knows the direction is heading. So are you really fooling anyone?

It's not easy and we all have dealt with disappointments in life but he needs to shake it off and collect his nice check that he earned.

Translation, please?

It does seem to be something personal with him and Taysom. I can't help but wonder if Jameis was struggling in the 2nd quarter would he leave him in in the third to try and redeem himself? Nevertheless, It's hard for me to believe he didn't already know what Taysom's abilities were after 4 years. If they were really sold on Taysom, why didn't they just bring in a typical journeyman backup that was no threat?
I followed Taysom here from BYU/GB. The Saints are the first NFL team I've ever followed.
Was a college ball guy.

I have to say, Taysom is done as far as a starter QB.
He was given all the means to pull it off and failed.
He is a running QB not a tosser and SP doesn't want him to run as he'll just end up injured and out again for another season like back at BYU.
At this time, he can only wait for JW to get injured, otherwise, he must return to the Swiss army role...and I'm OK with that.

He has nothing to be ashamed of because he worked his tail off as an undrafted FA to making 20 mil for his family. If they can make a movie out of that walk-on at Notre Dame, they can make a movie about him. He even has a cult following on this board and he could get a job on local TV like Bobby after he retires.
