Trevor Penning is PFF’s top graded Saint; Penning is highest graded NFL OT in Week 10 (7 Viewers)

OL PFF Grades for the Browns game:

Fuaga 54.2
Saldiveri 52.4
McCoy 74.0
Ruiz 62.6
Penning 61.5

For OT's this season, Penning currently ranks 56th overall (30th run blocking, 65th pass blocking).

These grades all seem very low, especially for Fuaga.

Penning being 56th overall and 65th in pass block also seems surprisingly low.

PFF grades are strange. Not only are the Saints OL not graded well this week but 3 of the Browns top 5 grades were DL on a day their defense gave up 216yds rushing and only had one sack.

Garret 82.8 - shut out statistically
McGuire 79.5 - (1) tackle
Harris 73.9 - (1) tackle

To get a sense of what their grades translate to:

Most of Penning’s games have graded in the below average range, that’s what is dragging him down. Both Penning and Ruiz were graded as average for this game, which I don’t think is an insult by any means (I think most people see a score in the 60’s and think it is a D or an F).

Penning was graded as elite versus the Falcons and good versus the Bucs. On pass blocking, he has a few games where he scored poor or worse.

Like anyone watching film, they are making their best guess of what that player’s assignment was and grade the player based on that. If they were supposed to set the edge for the run and were successful, they get graded favorably even if others fail at their assignment and the offense gets a big gain.

According to their stats, Garrett had a few pressures and McGuire/Harris were credited with a few run stops (tackles where runner did not get a minimum yardage for the down/distance situation).

Weird bc Garrett was held to his lowest pressure rate of his entire career and Fuagua only had a 54.2? 🤔🤔🤔

My best guess, without trying to grade it myself, is that he did well on win rate (beating his blocker), which doesn’t necessarily translate into pressures if the QB is getting the ball out. He had a higher win rate than any DL on our team except Payton Turner, but we had more pressures overall since Winston had a lot more drop back pass attempts (and since we had a better team pass rushing performance).

I thought Saldiveri was pretty good against the Browns.

The grade says what we already know: good run-blocker, needs improvement as a pass blocker. But that's even what was expected of him coming out of NIU. I'm just glad that he constantly seems to be improving, because he's got a really high ceiling. Just gotta get him to pass block like Ram.

Yeah, there’s obviously no bias there…

People need to stop believing these "ratings". These so called "analysts" pff has are simply nerds in the basement who have nothing better to do than to watch film and play with numbers and critique everybody..

No different than political polling, they are never accurate.
