TruSaint's Mock Draft 2.0 (83 Viewers)

jets may draft a qb
It doesn't look like they have much choice in the matter.

Rogers is done. Whether he comes back or not, he's done.

I suppose they could go the free agency route, but if the top-rated quarterbacks are still on the board, I just don't see them passing on quarterbacks.

We shall see
I mean I guess but a universal top 3 talent dropping to 9 seems like almost 0 chance of happening.

Especially with as bad of a QB class this year.

Any mock with Graham, Carter, Tet, or Hunter are just wishful thinking.

No Trades:

9. Mason Graham - DT
40. Tate Ratledge - G
71. Ashon Gilette - DE
91. Jayden Higgins - WR
110. Zy Alexander - CB
128. Mitchell Evans - TE
182. Xavier Watts - S
251. Joshua Gray - G
254. Tyreem Powell - LB
Not bad but unless they find Mason Graham smoking crack before the draft there is no way he is at 9. That win in NY costed us Mason Graham.

Love your first five picks. Jayden Higgins is steal. Not sure he last that long but he’s exactly what we lacking at WR.

We've taken OL and DL in the first in the last 7 drafts and 9 of the last 10 with the exception being Lattimore. We drafted Olave in the first one year but still got Penning just a handful of picks later.

Meanwhile our supporting cast for Carr/Rattler, is a 30 year old RB who can't handle the load by himself, 35 year old FB/TE/RB/QB who can't stay healthy, Olave who is best served as a #2 if you want him to stay healthy, Shaheed/MVS as deep threats who both missed time, Shaheed a lot of it and a meh TE.

I mean maybe he's not wrong... Our cupboard is bare. We're trotting out UDFA's by the halfway point and then wondering why Carr is getting hurt and asking our 5th round QB to move an offense with nothing to work with.

Not only would I be taking Jeanty at #9, I'd be trading up from the 2nd to land Warren. We absolutely need someone who can make contested catches and he's great at it with elite hands.
1st Just because you haven't hit or had an awful DL and OL coach and didn't develop those OL and DL does not mean that you don't need quality OL and DL , And saying that just because we have drafted 1st rnd OL and DL in the last 7 does not mean we say " Heck with it no more "Fat Guys" . Because without those fat guys all your WR, TE and RBs mean nothing.

And if you don't have the fat guys on the DL you can't stop the run or rush the passer

A QB gets hurt due to poor OL play not because he has UDFAs at the skill positions

Like I said I'm all for taking T-Mac if he's there @9 . But I'm not reaching for Jeanty @9 and passing on Graham or Carter because while you all think it's important to score points, it's just as important to keep the other team FROM scoring points

This draft is fairly deep with the X WR that we need. T-Mac, Harris, Higgins , Savion Williams . Egbuka, Prather.
And some good TEs , Warren , Loveland Fanning, Taylor
RBs are fairly deep. Jeanty , Judkins , Hampton, Johnson Giddens

Graham and Carter are universal top 3-5 players in the draft, no one is passing on them. If I had 2 good DE's I'm still drafting Carter. T-Mac fits into that category as well. As it currently stands it's pretty unrealistic having them make it to us. Jeanty is a universal top 10, at least he's plausible.

Draft depth doesn't really factor into the top 10 picks because there are only a handful of blue chip players available. That's like saying no I'm going to pass on Saquon Barkley because I might be able to draft Rashad Penny, Sony Michel, Ronald Jones, Kerryon Johnson, or Darius Guice later. I don't think the Raiders regret drafting Bowers so they could have drafted a less talented DT/DE. Elite talent is elite talent.

And without good skill players all those fat guys mean nothing... Did Cincy having no offensive line stop Chase from getting open? No. Everything around Nabers is trash, even his QB, but he's still producing. Without a strong run game defenses can tee off on the QB, without WR's that can actually get open the QB has to hold onto the ball longer. You need a RB that can catch and pass protect or it can give away your play to the defense. You can't stop the run or rush the passer if your defense is gassed from the offense constantly going 3 and out.

Football is a game of balance and our team is badly out of balance. We have a lot of underdeveloped young talent on the offensive and defensive lines. A good coach can still develop and get more out of Breese, Penning, Turner, Fuaga, Ruiz, and less so Foskey. We have nothing at the skill positions.

I've seen mocks where both T-Mac and Graham are available and there is a lot of time and all-star and combine before the draft. And every yr there are surprises
If you had Crosby and Watt as edges and you drafted Carter with your high 1st when you had avg to below avg WRs ,TE and even RB you've just hindered your success as a GM or HC

Go take a look at Gary Kubiak and Mike Shanahan's Broncos teams . Their system took avg RBs and WRs and won SBs . Yes they had Elway but Kubiak had an aging Manning that was past his prime. But they di have good 'GFat Guys"

You've got it backwards a good OL or even a great system that makes an avg OL better gives the QB time to throw and opens holes for even a avg back like CJ Anderson to be an all-pro.

Good fat guys on the DL stop the very good RBs from running all over the field. And the pressure the QB into throwing incompletions, Ints and fumbling the ball so THEY can't score

Yes you are right we need more at the skill positions that's why my #1 target is T-Mac. . But if he's not there and Graham is or by some great luck Carter is . I'm not passing on him to draft a RB @9 even if he is a very good RB because I have AK who had one of his best yrs and is still good for at least 2 more and I still don't know what i have in Miller

I was able to trade down a few times and get lots of picks. I ended up with 7 top 100 picks and 20 over all. This is how you create a youth movement and fix the salary cap. Trade down and get more picks. I shored up the lines with the first 2 picks and then drafted a bunch of playmakers, got some fresh young legs for competition at LBer, and some depth at DT and O-line. I should have done more at edge, but I was offensive minded.

While I am certain that 20 picks is unrealistic, trading back for more picks is what I want to see us do at 9.
Im all for easing back on the cap.

My big problem with this is that a Top 100 Draft pick really isnt significantly better than a UDFA talent.

If Tom Nalen or Gary Zimmerman fell to us at 9 we would be absolute fools not to take them...and I dont care that Nalen was a center drafted in the 7th round (IMO he is a borderline Hof slight). Neil Smith in the first round...sign me up. Heck I would take Harry Swayne, Brian Habib, or even Matt Lepsis in the 2nd and not complain.

But then again I would also take Shannon Sharpe, Terrell Davis, Rod Smith or Steve Atwatter easily in the first round and have no problem trading up in the 2nd to get Ed McCaffery, Bill Romanowski, or John Mobley.
