Two other middle linebacker options besides Zaven Collins at 28: Jayson Oweh and Joseph Ossai (1 Viewer)

Being able to move is one thing, being able to read, anticipate, shed blocks, cover a RB are completely different. I’m not saying he can’t do these things, but unless he’s played LB before and already has those skills already is setting him up for failure if you move him to LB in a 4-3 or a 4-2-5 like we run.
Look At Barr's, Urlacher's and Devin White's agility drills and vertical and compare it to Oweh.

Then look at his run stop numbers (best in class) and 4.3 sideline-to-sideline speed.

I'm pretty confident that he can make the switch to 4-3 linebacker.

Oweh is actually a very similar athlete to his predecessor Lavar Arrington.

Being an athlete and being able to move is one thing, having the know how to and technique to play a certain position is another. He may be a great LB in the NFL, but drafting “Project Players” in the 1st round is a luxury when your team is stacked, this year we are not. I get there are no sure things in the draft but if we pick him Oweh in the 1st to play out of position and he does fail then fans will be complaining about it like they do for us trading up for Davenport. If he played both positions at Penn St I could see the transition, but reading up on him he only played edge rusher. Also, reading all the scouting reports, none of them even mention him moving to LB as a consideration.

If he can stop on a dime, switch gears, and chase a wr down from behind on a jet sweep them he is more than capable of playing several linebacker positions.

That's why I pointed out that play in particular in the OP.

It's a play that a guy like Demario Davis or Devin White makes routinely.

I really don't base my opinion solely on scouting reports. That's why I had a guy like Chase Claypool as my #1 wr Last year.

I call it how I see it.

Parsons is the only (4-3 Inside) LB that I can see that's worth taking in the 1st round (based on relative value at the LB position in general)... and he will be long gone by the time we pick... But that's just me... If we take a LB, I'll get the ice bucket ready... LOL

I wouldn't be surprised If both Toney and Oweh are better Pro Linebackers than Parsons.

I would... But again.... I think it totally depends on the team. A lot of teams (like the Saints) rarely put more than 2 LBs on the field on nearly every snap... Those 2 guys need to be able to Rush the passer, Cover. Shoot gaps, and chase side to side... That's what makes Davis so good here, and what made losing Kwon hurt so much... They rarely had to come off the field, and they were rarely in a mismatch... And in a division like ours... nearly every LB is in a mismatch unless you have 2 guys like Davis and Kwon, or White and David, or Jones in ATL.

Any other type of LB is nearly useless outside of 1st and 10. Todays' LBs are Beefed up Safeties with coverage skills and don't totaly suck at stopping the run.

Exceptions are teams like Baltimore and Denver - They would value traditional LB roles much more... But it's becoming more and more rare.

That's why I mentioned Ossai already having MLB and 4-2-5 Jack experience.

I just don't think many people are considering Just how athletic Oweh could be as a MLB or OLB.

Honestly, I would try him at several different positions like Taysom or Adalius Thomas.

I think that he would be well-suited for many.

He's as agile as many of the best linebackers EVER like Kuechly and Urlacher and is faster than guys like Kwon and Devin White.

That is insane.

I see a lot of respectable outlets pegging Ossai as an OLB in a 3-4 on the next level... But that's just what I have read, and I have only seen him play 1 game at Texas... so I'll admit, I discounted him as a 1st round option for us completely.... and I don't know a ton about him.

I just hope they draft a LB. At this point, I don't even care who it is. This team currently rosters one legitimate linebacker. That's really, really concerning. Yeah, Baun could prove himself valuable next year but there's no guarantee that will happen. The fact I've seen some Saints mocks where no LB's are picked is just a huge red flag.
