Tyrann Mathieu's personal foul on the 2 pt conversion (2 Viewers)

Can anyone shed some light on why his hit on Baker was a personal foul?

I saw one step and Mathieu's shoulder to Baker's upper torso.

It feels like yet another BS personal foul call against the Saints.
It was another bad call by NFL Referee's!

Baker was on the outside the tackles acting as if he as going to run with the ball.... he was outside the pocket!
HB took one step and hit him with his shoulder pad after the ball was released...

Should have been considered a clean hit...

Cool tell us the rules oh wise one.
There's gamespeed, what the refs see and replay. It's easy to say what's right and wrong sitting watching in the stands or in front of a TV. The ball was thrown scrambling he got rid of the ball untouched you can't take more than two steps and hit any qb afterwards. It was a late hit simple.

Look them up u watching nfl football without knowing the rules or you just have saints colored glasses on for every single call.
I know the rules; you don’t. That’s why I challenged you to look it up so you can stop making a fool of yourself.

Here’s a link because you’re too lazy to look it up.

I took another look.

Mathieu was running full speed. Baker throws the ball, Mathieu's back foot from the previous step lands, and he takes one step forward into Mayfield.

I suppose it can be debated whether the back foot landing is considered a step (I don't think it was, I still say he took one step) but there is no way he took more than two.

If a punter outside the tackle box can be mauled while kicking the ball then so can a QB who's committed to the run then changed his mind.
This is a good point. I can't imagine anyone in a more dangerous position, not WRs, not QBs, not PKs, to get hit in an NFL game than a punter with one leg planted and the other one 120 degrees up in the air.

Even better, you mean the official replay back in New York can over turn/ call a penalty that is obvious, but not called on the field? i’m still speechless and utterly mad that this was not used before in a certain championship game!!!

for those who do not what know what I’m talking about, it is the 2 point conversion where Godwin was awarded the catch, however, it was reviewed by New York and called a penalty on Godwin.
All scoring plays are reviewed. Missing your point.

The facemask on Breese was legit. Grab any part of the helmet and that gets called. The call against Adebo was absurd. The Mathieu hit is a judgement call. If the ref doesn't throw the flag there, then the NFL isn't protecting players.

I think we all heard you the 40th time you said this. You’re wrong no matter how many times you say it.

  1. When the passer goes outside the pocket area and either continues moving with the ball (without attempting to advance the ball as a runner) or throws while on the run, he loses the protection of the one-step rule provided for in (a) above, and the protection against a low hit provided for in (e) above, but he remains covered by all the other special protections afforded to a passer in the pocket (b, c, d, and f), as well as the regular unnecessary roughness rules applicable to all player positions. If the passer stops behind the line and clearly establishes a passing posture, he will then be covered by all of the special protections for passers.
