did you miss that it was from March 2022 and disappointed you posted or dont care?

just curious.
So, in March of 2022 they banned all opposition parties.

I still want them to win, but, they are hardly a fortress of democracy.

You do realize that March 2022 was less than a month from being invaded by russians, right? And that the UKR govt was rife with russian puppets when Zelensky was elected? He needed to clean house, for democracy's sake, and that was just as good a time as any other.

So everyone of the talking heads claiming the war is to defend democracy are what exactly.... again, I am in now way saying russia shouldn't be bombed back into the stone age but the democracy angle is the dominant narrative in the west.

It's old news. I don't know why you're bringing it up now. It was already brought up in this thread several months ago.

The Russians will do anything they can to try to obfuscate from what's currently happening in the war now. It's essentially a distraction.

holy cow.

is that the dominant narrative? on the media you consume?

The dominant narrative SINCE DAY 1 was the SOVEREIGNTY of Ukraine as agreed upon 30 years prior and the INTERNATIONAL law that requires respecting this.

That was, and still is the overall narrative here. The fact they are moving toward democracy is a given. The fact that they are first like of defense for Eastern Europe is also a given.

So take that narrative you gobbled up and ....

Yeah, I was scratching my head about the dominant narrative thing. Maybe that's what the article wanted us to think, but that's far from the case, at least here anyway.

On the surface, this appears heavy handed and undemocratic. But its wartime, the national existence is in question and it was parties which were basically Russian fronts and trying to destroy the country

About the second most popular party, this is true but because there are dozens of parties in Ukraine, and the support was maybe 10-15%.

Were you trying to respond to me? I never mentioned Russian disinformaiton.

I just mentioned that for some reason I have seen this 18 month old story recycled in three different places today.
As of right now, it hasn't popped up on the top retweets on the Hamilton dashboard. It will be interesting to check back tomorrow and compare. (y)

Nobody thought Ukraine was a well-run country. The main point is that we can't let Russia go invading its neighbors.

SOVEREIGN neighbors that you agreed to at that.

The fact they were moving toward democratic process, is in part, why Russia invaded as well. But it was the return to "Soviet era" borders Putin desired.
