That is correct.

Snap-count means we launch our ICBM's and our strategic bombers with the intent of destroying any missiles they haven't launched in their silos before they can launch them at us.

It's also called MAD. As in madness. It's deterrence and it works.

It works best if there aren't any people running around in our country saying "Oh, we wouldn't do that."

It's actually safer for all concerned if our citizens all line up and say "Yes, we will do that." And mean it.

What is very dangerous is any idea that we might not respond in that way, if for instance it wasn't a very big one, or it wasn't dropped on a NATO country, etc, etc... .

Hard as nails, no exceptions, is the safer way to go. Deterrence works.

What you're saying would be a tremendous shift in our policy, one that we've been very firm on for the last 70 or so years.

If Russia uses a tactical nuclear device in Ukraine the US will absolutely go ape over them. They know it, and they've known it for 70 years.

Fun fact most don't know is we've done psych evals and selected the best candidates to carry out the mission. We understand what percentage will fail to launch. We have systems in place to finish the job should equipment or manpower fail.
