US delivered a "re-worked" deal to Ukraine.

If I were Ukraine, I would agree to a deal and not honor it as soon as it was in my best interest.

I find it hard to believe that his cult would abandon him.

It was more than his cult that got him elected. Those were discussed at length on MAP. Can't do that
here without getting very political.

His approval ratings have been sinking like the Titanic recently.

Analagous to the bully threatening to take your lunch money until you punch him in the nose. Then he wants to make nice and be your friend.

I guess its more like you punch the bully in the nose, and he says he'll settle for only half the lunch money

And protect you from the other bully that wants all your lunch money
