Would it though? Amongst other issues, pilots and technicians would have to retrain on them, I imagine military planes are a totally different beast than civilian versions. And its not just the airframe, its the engine, avionics, etc. So the TCO could quickly add up.
The tactical aircraft they currently use are modified military aircraft. CalFire uses a fleet of old Navy folding wing submarine warfare aircraft which date back to WWII. Many other of the larger tanker fleet used to be military aircraft as well. Some are modified modern jet airliners too.

The fleet California uses of the navy aircraft were rebuilt a few years back. They rebuilt them to a level that they were considered to be new aircraft despite being something like 80 years old.

Here's CalFire's last year's addition of old military aircraft to their fleet.

On edit, others have been pursuing this. Here's something about it from 2014 in Colorado. There is a conversion design already in place:

Not sure what the last 25 years of warfare has taught the US, but if they listened to those on ground, the quickest way to get mired down is to apply "rules/restrictions to engagement"

There is no "clean war" ever. AS much as we would like to have "pinpoint precision" munitions etc, it doesnt matter. It will always be messy. And if you are attempting to fight with one hand tied behind your back, then you are sealing your fate pretty much.

Let Ukraine do their way. THEY were invaded. THEY are fighting for their very existence and know way better than anyone, the stakes involved. GEt the !@#!#@ out the way.

sigh.
I would hope our stance has softened considerably since the start of the war. And I understand the reasoning behind it while everyone was feeling out how valid Putin's threats would play out. Now, with so many deep attacks on oil refineries and military targets that have occurred we'd pull the restrictions and let Ukraine do as they see fit.

Just read a TG post from a UAF officer w/ 22 OMBP - said the Kharkiv incursions are meant to distract from other areas - be vigilant and not take the bait ( as in pulling troops from elsewhere where RuAF really want a breakthru )

gonna be interesting few weeks
