Militaries seem to have this weird hate/love with facial hair.I'm pleased to see they allow beards. Now if they would allow for some reasonable personal hair expression.
After service, and the occupational work period of life was over my personal style has been to allow hair to express itself as it sees fit.
I was kind of surprised to find out that hair when it gets to much below my shoulders, the ends seem to break off, it's self trimming, and my beard self trimming as well, about the time it's the size of a shovel the ends break off.
I don't ever need an external haircut, or a beard cut.

The "clean-cut" look common in the US military, prettyu sure was fairly recent - like 20th century. Going back to the US civil war - not having at least some facial hair (whether it was full beard, mustach or just mutton chops) was actually the exception.
In older times, the Romans and Egyptians were clean shaven, while the Greeks and barbarian tribes were not.
Even in WW2, German uboot crews allowed full beards - although that was probably for practicality more than anything. Not a whole lot of clean water to spare for shaving.
My theory is, some general / politician gets into power, decides what looks cool and feels that everyone should follow them. I think there's a fair degree of copying of whats considered the best army. E.g., the US copied alot from the Prussians / Germans in the late 19th century.
I think we all tried that! lolAll i can remember was it had to do with your MOP gear- GAS! GAS! GAS! - no clean seal, u ded.
which brings back awful memory of the tear gas chamber in boot camp....i dont know wtf i was thinkin that i could get away with name, rank and ssn in one breath and the Drill not being able to tell lolol. Took a shot to gut, one giant inhale and rest was history.
Russians come across destroyed tank. They think its a Leopard - even pick up an ERA module that instead of explosive, has a mortar brick inside it ( at :16-26 seconds )
they then realize its a T90 - not leopard.
I got a kick out of this response to that tweet:
"T90-M, everyone can easily recognize that based on the shape of turret and the top of the remote control weapon system whole."
Yeah, everyone!
That reminds me, this week the phone company buried new underground cable through my place. Once I saw where they were intending to dig, I mention to the forman that they were about to dig through where I was pretty darned sure there's a car buried under the surface.
I told him I thought it's a chevy, probably 1930's. They broke their ditcher on it, busted a shaft.
I now have a few more parts of that car. Everyone can easily see it's a 1930's chevy.
I had the same experience. I had beaten the game many times, but one time I screwed up and took in a deep breath. Had to helped out of the tent and the strange thing is I could inhale all I wanted but couldn't exhale any air. I had to basically try and belch out air and it took a while. I used to look at others for making that mistake and this time it was me.All i can remember was it had to do with your MOP gear- GAS! GAS! GAS! - no clean seal, u ded.

To top it off I was made the NBC officer for my company so I had annual refresher training and, of course, the tear gas tent, the charcoal-lined suits in summer, etc.
To the original point, that was a big reason for the no facial hair. So the mask could seal.
