UPDATE: BI Likely to be Traded[Pel's Media expect a big push to move in Ingram in Early August] (1 Viewer)

He's not being traded... We will roll with what we have at the 5 and play small ball most of the time... and BI will leave next year and get his money elsewhere... with the Pels earning no compensation... that's it.

Might as well change the thread title.

Maybe the 6th time is the charm.

Seems all these articles speculating that Utah wants Ingram use Christian Clark as their source. In other words, it is pure speculation.

They also assume that Griff is their birtch and will want to give BI away to avoid paying him...

At this point.... I think he's part of the team next year - And we have built the contingency play of Theis, Missi, Jemison, JRE and Matkovic at the 5....

BI will get moved before the trade deadline, or we'll just lose him to FA next year. That's that.

It's pretty much agreed that BI is a bad fit with the projected starting lineup unless he comes into training camp proving he is willing and able to take (and hit) more 3s like he did in his first couple seasons with us.
Assuming that doesn't happen, I still think the best way to maximize him is with the second squad. It will allow him to play his game, showcase what he can do to earn a max contract (elsewhere more than likely), and you would have a bench player that averages 20+ a game.
Some people just don't get that having 2 ball dominant players in the starting lineup (and BI has not shown a great off-ball game) is not a good recipe for success especially when both of them live in the midrange on offense. Both Murray and Ingram only shoot 25% of their shots from 3 for their career and when you add in the fact that Zion lives in that area too, it is a recipe for disaster on offense. It's a spacing nightmare

Correct me if I am wrong, but the BI proponents have advocated for CJ to be the one coming off the bench which is ridiculous. He is a career 40% shooter from 3 and shot 43% last season. Without a doubt he is our best off ball 3 pt threat and will having wide open looks constantly with Zion and Dejounte breaking down defenses since CJ would no longer be a primary or secondary ball handler.

A lot depends on what we decide to do at the 5. If we are going to put one of our true centers in the starting lineup, then you already have WhicheverCenter-Dejounte-Zion-Herb taking 4 of the spots. That last spot would HAVE to be a serious 3 point threat.

And if we go with a small ball starting lineup, say Zion-Herb-Dejounte-BI-CJ/TM3 what the hell is going to come off the bench? Who are your ball handlers on offense? Most of your bench is made up of bigs. Hawkins showed he can't be a ball handler in the summer league. If you put TM3 in the starting lineup, it could be Alvarado and CJ as your ball handlers which is not ideal at all as it doesn't play to CJ's strength (and allow opposing defenses to focus on him)

$45m sounds a lot better than a max. Four years at $180m vs. four years at $208m. A difference of $7m per year. If they could get it down to say, $42m I'd say jump on it. With the projected money/cap increase coming in, it will seem like a good contract towards the end.

No, Ingram isn't coming off the bench. Murray as a distributor will provide 3-point looks for Ingram just fine. CJ is a declining 33-year-old in September and can't play defense. He isn't a long-term piece and will possibly/probably be moved next offseason when he is an expiring and we don't have to attach a pick to get rid of him. CJ's cap # off the books will be a big boost when Ingram's extension comes in (if that is what happens).

Edit. Click bait lies.

The problem with Ingram isn't that he doesn't get 3pt looks....the problem is that he kept passing up open 3pt shots last season to dribble into the mid-range which resulted in contested 2pt shots. Check the stats....in his first 2 seasons he shot over 6 attempts a game. In the past 2 seasons he is shooting less than 4 per game and last season he only made 35.5% (compared to CJ who attempted 8.4 a game and made 43%).

Plus I have yet to see anybody who wants BI in the starting lineup address the fit and spacing issues. You can't just focus on BI....you have to look at the entire offense. What do you think the starting lineup should be? Who is/are your offball specialists from long range? Plus who are your ball handlers off the bench?

I love having BI here.....I hope he comes into training camp shooting like he did in year two with us but you can't just assume the outlier season will happen. The facts are that the last 3 seasons as a whole he has been pedestrian at 3 pt attempts and percentage and I saw him pass up open 3s fairly frequently last year.
