USA Today Ranks Dennis Allen Worst Head Coach in the League (2 Viewers)

Actually, it was entirely his game plan and he was participating in meetings via zoom. Only the game day calls were made by DA. If you want to credit DA as a head coach for those 3 hours, I guess you can. But I don’t.
And had he lost the game?
Still on him?

I have zero faith in DA but he’s not the worse coach when there are coaches that have a 0-0 record in the mix. That’s like saying Caleb Williams is better than Russell Wilson

Those 0-0 coaches could lose their first 22 games and still be the same number of games DA is under .500.

And the Williams-Wilson comp is also a bad example, anyone with half a brain is going to take Caleb Williams over Russell Wilson. Youd go with potential over a guy that has fallen off a cliff the last 2 years. Its the same with DA. Id rather take my chances on a 0-0 as opposed to a guy with a .343 career record in FIVE seasons.

I dont know if he is the worst, but he is in the conversation. Theres no doubt about that.

The 2015 Saints played a schedule .003 harder and went 7-9. Hall-of-Fame head coach and quarterback.

Classic Dennis Defender move. Defend a perpetual loser by pointing out some failings of a proven winner as a reason why its ok for your loser to lose.

Drew also significantly hurt his shoulder that year. And while the preseason sos was low...Carolina did kinda go 15-1 and made a Superbowl appearance. Arizona went 13-3 and made a postseason run.

So...there

Yup, it’s sad and pathetic….so terribly weak….

I’m hoping DA proves us all wrong this year, but this continued attempt to prop him up by somehow comparing his shortcomings to a coach who is, by far, the best in Saints history is just mind numbingly dumb….

Because it doesn't align with your beliefs, it's sad and pathetic?

Maybe not the right QB comparison but I was trying to think up the worst veteran starting QB since DA is debatable the worst coach that has coached in the league

Nope, because no one with any common sense at all would legitimately compare a coach that is a proven winner (SB champ, playoffs 9 out of 16 seasons, a .631 winning 5) to a coach that has yet to take a team to the playoffs and has a .343 over 6 seasons…..

Those aren’t my beliefs, those are facts…

It is true that Payton has had several seasons that look like DA's best seasons but DA has never had any seasons that look like Payton's best seasons.

Payton's floor is DA's ceiling (so far).

Every successful head coach has to go through their growing pains.

I wasn't a fan of the D.A. hire, but all he can do is work to improve.
He fired the whole offensive coaching staff and replaced it with a system that is working in the NFL right now.
Do you know if he chose the previous OC or was he forced to use the same old system?

I can speak as a manager of 30+ years. All you can do is measure the plusses and minuses of your record and make changes accordingly.
Hopefully, the new offensive scheme is much better than the system created for Drew that didn't have Drew to run it.

The problem is the non-fact of “easiest schedule of all time” that keeps being bleated here. Anyone who clicks the 2015 strength of schedule link will see multiple teams played an even easier one than the .427 SOS the 2023 Saints played, but Dennis Detractors Detest Details Dat Don’t ‘Demnify Da Dude, so here we are. A common superlative talking point is blown to bits, and the response is “b-b-b-b-but muh histrie!” I correctly identified that the best coach this team has ever had was also capable of underperforming against a weak schedule. All the Sean Payton trading card blurb facts in the universe won’t change that one. He had two fewer wins than the coach y’all froth about against a similar strength of schedule, and it remains the truth when you factor out the game Drew sat (7-8). And it remains true if you take out the 17th game under the new scheduling format (34-0 win vs NE; 8-8). It’s also true that the 2023 Saints had a better home record (5-3) than the 2015 Saints (4-4) even though the entire fanbase allegedly hates this coach and refused to cheer for him during pregame announcements. Want some more painful truth? The 2023 hate-the-coach Saints lost one game out of eight by double digits. The 2015 Saints, playing a .003 harder SOS, lost four games out of nine by double digits. Hall-of-Fame head coach lost games against: rookie Jameis Winston, rookie Marcus Mariota, missed the entire previous season Sam Bradford, and Brian Hoyer. The latter two were by three scores.

Some have success right away, some don’t…..but the question is how long do you give a coach before you realize he just doesn’t have the tools/ability to lead?

In one breath you say “he fired the whole offensive coaching staff”, in another you say he may not have had a choice in retaining the previous OC…..did he suddenly acquire the authority after a few years?

The prevailing opinions on the matter was that both DA and ML begged PC to stay, after the first season disaster someone made the decision to retain him….to me it doesn’t matter who made the decision….if DA did then it reinforces to me that DA is a poor decision maker….if it was ML then it’s a larger problem, any NFL team where a HC doesn’t have the ability to make changes to their staff is a dysfunctional organization IMO….

as Saints fans we have no choice but to what and see what happens….but, my feeling is after all these changes, if we don’t make the playoffs this year, what is there left to change?

This is about the shallowest, stat seeking bs Ive ever seen. The lengths some of you will go to defend a well proven loser is bordering on astonishing. Youre going to cherry pick some data from a coach with a SB ring, 2 NFCCGs and a .620 career win %, that has 9 10+ win seasons and has never lost 10 in a season in an attempt to justify lowering yourself to defending a guy who has 1 NON 10 LOSS season in his 5 years as a head coach, (outside of the 1 he was fired at 0-4) with 0 playoff appearances and a general aloofness on the sideline that caused him to tell a qb who threw 2 pick sixes in 1 half to keep doing what he is doing.

You can believe in him. But he is what he is. No matter how much of a yes man or woman you are. Toe the party line all you want. He is a bottom 5 head coach in todays NFL. He is a bottom 10 coach all time by win %.

This is total nonsensical dribble…..no one claims that CSP was perfect, he had plenty of faults, all coaches do, he also had unprecedented success as a Saints coach…..DA has had zero success so far, as Saints fans we certainly all hopes that changes this year but all the comparisons in the world doesn’t change that all encompassing reality….

I understand wanting DA to be that guy, but these “points” you are trying to make are just….silly…..Painful truth? that is hilarious….

If he stinks it up this year, he needs to go.
No one is being blind to that fact. At least not that I have seen.

In fact, I was in the fire him boat after last year.
But he wasn't.
So all we can do for this year is to hope he's making things better.
