USA Today Ranks Dennis Allen Worst Head Coach in the League (1 Viewer)

Right and many here felt Winston was a good qb, Bowles did it with Baker, he was a cast off. Regardless, you make my point, both coaches had the same record but one is ranked way above the other. The rankings are not based in logic.

Payton is ranked ahead of Bowles because he has been far more successful. But he’s ranked at 16, which takes into account his last two seasons. When Brees was playing, I think an overwhelming majority of people who have agreed that Payton was a top 5 coach.

I’m not defending the list or the thinking that went into. It’s just somebody’s opinion.

Here is the thing.....
-Winston getting hurt kept us from the playoffs, competition with a 13 win team for the NFC South and Payton getting Coach of the Year
-Bowles wins a division title at the weakest that it has been in a recent memory with a team that had it's 2nd worst offensive season since *checks notes*, the 2022 season.

To say that Payton hasn't done anything since Drew makes one question if people really paid attention to what was going on during the 2021 season and to compare what Payton did with what he had in 2021 to what Bowles did last season is nuts..lol

He was top 5 in 2021.

Based solely on last season, should SP be ranked ahead of Bowles?

Right, SP was far more successful with Brees at the helm. However based on his production post Brees I would not rank him as high as 16. This is my opinion, if he proves he can be successful without Brees then that would be something to consider.

Honestly who reads a newspaper? Once they changed the paper I was done.

Last year, after being considered “dead in the water” after a craptastic start, SP led his team to 6 wins out of 7 (middle of season), while beating the Packers, Bills, Browns, and embarrassing the Chiefs. He did that with Russ reaching 200 passing yards in only 2 of those 7 games. That offense was anemic and their run game wasn’t that great. He is a tremendous coach and got the most out of his players last year.

*Took a 5 win team to 8
*Took the worst scoring offense to 19th
*Beat 4 playoff teams

If you look at what he took over and what he did, he has a very strong case for that.
But a 10 position difference. It doesn’t make sense.

Dead last? I don't think so. Actually, I think that is a really stupid take.

But Top 15? I don't think that's right, either.

Imho, he is the epitome of mediocre. Just look at his record with the Saints and it shows that.

We'll have to see whether Kubiak can deliver a decent offense. So far that has been the biggest weakness in the team and one could argue that has been more the fault of PC and ML.

Improvement in the team via offensive improvement should move him up from a mediocre HC to a decent HC.

I often wonder how much the coaching changes (and lack of same) actually lie at the feet of ML. And, no, we don't know that CDA had much of a say in it.

Most of us thought he should have been fired last season but he was gifted a new OC in hopes that maybe he turns it around this season. History has not been on Allens side as a head coach. Worst seems like a stretch though.

We lost to all of the good teams that we played. Jax, Det, GB, Tx. were all close games. Which showed we were a good team. But we got smoked vs the Shannan tree in Minn and the Rams. This told us, we need a new OC period, if we want to be a GREAT team. We showed heart at the end beating TB and ATL. TB was our most impressive win becaue they advanced in the playoffs. But they were technically 8-8 at the time. Which makes the above cherry picked statement, that we didn’t beat a winning team, true. Regardless of the past, this team brilliantly realized what it needed to do, and did exactly that. They hired the Godfathers Son and his henchmen of the system that has been repetitively rocking us for years. One thing you have to give them credit for, when they realize that they have a need, they go out and fill that need ASAP with quality. I truly have hope in the Saints this year. My only concern is how fast can our offense absorb this new system into their DNA.
I appreciate your fandom, but DA will not get it done IMO. The offense will improve and the W/L record won’t be much different at best compared to DA’s previous two seasons.

Numbers and history say he is the worst. I know I have been no fan of his since the moment he was hired, and personally I am not. But, he has his QB, his OC and this is his team now. So, to me this is the year. He could blame things on losing Brees, not having his OC all that. But all that is in the past. This is his team this year. While
I would love to see a deep playoff run, I’m not expecting it.
