USMNT - ‘23 and beyond (4 Viewers)

It's like they are running the con in reverse. Been had, NOW we gonna tell you about it.

US soccer is infected. We had discussions waaay back about this. There was another poster here that brought many links to light about the innards of US Soccer.

Winning tends to keep things quiet. Losing brings them to light.

Idk what to think at this point as to where this while program is currently. But it makes me sick that I gotta accept it to root on my country.
yeah I think that was BigTymer (something like that)
I wish he still posted- he had real insight into the lower divisions of US soccer

at some point Mexico FA needs to address it to keep the aura of game stoppages out of the players minds. It's not fair for either side really.
How's MX FA going to address things that happen in the U.S. involving people who do not live in MX?

It’s interesting- after WC there were hardly any full throated ggg supporters
The bell curve seemed to go from:
meh he did ok, to;
props to him for getting us here but he underperformed with the talent he had and really pooped the bed with his post tourney flubs, to of course;
he never should have been hired and his inclusion screams of corruption and ineptitude in USSF
(I was in middle part of bell curve)

now after the initial spasm of negative reactions, we have a torrent of ggg defenders- seemingly louder and more numerous than any pro-ggg noise in his entire tenure- I don’t think they’re bots, but they certainly act like bots

Its very odd. Not counting the Reyna debacle and the domestic abuse stuff, I just never got on the Berhalter train. The people saying he had a "succesful WC", I just dont get it. We had draws with Wales and Eng, beat a very weak Iran team 1-0, and he got Van Gaal'd in the KO round. We score 3 goals in 4 matches, and 1 of them by Haji was a complete accident. Bob Bradley and Klinsmann both got to the KO, Klinsmann got out of a group with Germany and Prime CR Portugal - and was a Wondo chip shot away from pushing Belgium to get to the QF. Arena MADE the QF. Its not like he did something special.

But youre right, and Im trying not to be tin foil hat here, USSF really has done some shady things in all of this from leaking the decision 5 min before US-MX to the "rigourous 10 hour days" and highly technoligically worded testing procedures with candidates - all with a guy who just started the job in Crocker. Id love for anyone who actually did this exhausting hiring process to come forward. I guarantee Jesse Marsch got a phone call. MLS played a huge role in this. We have to have someone who will continue to call in guys like Jordan Morris and Roldan and Acosta and Arriola and waste roster spots and piss off players like Pepi who got left at home in favor of JESUS FERREIRA.

Anyway, it is what it is at this point. We have to root for our NT in spite of that decision.

It could work, but there is just no vision and ambition in the hire. I think it's as exciting as hiring Dennis Allen.

Miles was the only mls player starting out there, right? (And his injury probably kept him from moving)
One of the subplot comments was about the difference in level for the squads is US fields intl players and MX players play for MX clubs

Get Flo more time with team, Gio more time in the role, back 4 more time together and this might be the best squad US has ever fielded
If ggg goes backwards (fields more mls players) then it’s pretty clear ussf is pulling strings

You know what? Screw the ggg stuff

Let’s focus on the awesome match (while fully acknowledging it was a very weak mx squad)
I think all of our players raised their club team profile (I’m hoping teams focus on Wes kissing the badge moreso that getting the red)
Dest has done nothing for 6 months and plays like this🤩
Weah fast as ever
Musah keeps growing
Gio mostly strong- looked like he throttled down to 90% BUT played the whole dang 90’+12’-4’
Back 4 solid with closing speed to overcome most mistakes (can’t give up some of those shallow passes against quality forwards, but…)

There’d probably be much more Flo hype is CP laid off the shot he sailed
But he did have some nice link up even in limited practice time
Pepi continues to show some great poacher instincts- I’d prefer to keep seeing what Flo is all about, but I’d love to see more Pepi on set pieces to see if he’s more of an aerial threat now

Loved the way we started - didn’t love the 10 or so minutes where we didn’t have answers about getting through the mid, but after CP unlocked Sanchez we didn’t look back

Onto Canada with delatorre and ??

Scally was my first thought, but he will have trouble keeping up with Davies.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Weah back there and Aaronson on the wing.

I just want to see Flo and Pepi on the field together in the attack. And to me part of the beauty of Gios game is that he always looks 90%. It’s deceptive how much ground he covers. He will run past players that look like they are moving faster.

There was a move early in first..a ball from Dest, up the line toward touch and Gio was in foot race w MNT player who had the angle. Gio, about 15 yards from ball, took two or three strides that the only way I can describe, was as "elongated" and he got there before. What I took from that is he has this move, but only uses when needed, and only uses the minimum number that allows him to beat defender. It was impressive.

Aaronson,scally, Zimmerman in

Odd lineup
I can’t say the formation leaps off the page
Maybe that’s a good thing

I’m fine with Scally and Aaronson. Scally won’t be able to push forward with Davies outpacing him.

But idk about Zimmerman. Is Miles still on some kind of minute restriction?

Let’s go!
