Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities

I am no fan of Cantrell, but I think you're being overdramatic again. Link gives a decent explanation as to why the mayor and the FBI are saying two different things.

And to your point about future events, that's not going happen. Is the NFL going to stop having events in New York, Atlanta, L.A., who have experienced far worse events then this? No. Neither will be the case here.

I hope we can focus on the lives lost or injured today and not these assumptions that have nothing to do with it.
If you knew me you would know that I have zero partisan political affiliations. I don't have any feelings for or against Mayor Cantrell. What I do know is that one of the biggest roles of a mayor is to promote their city in the best light possible; to attract more people to become potential tourists to the area. I was not trying to overdramatize her statement. I believe that most people who have love for the city would have wanted the verbiage to be more reassuring during those early hours of the investigation while allowing the local & federal law enforcement agencies to raise the level of caution if necessary.

But yes, this is not the time for bickering or second guessing the actions of the officials involved. For now the loss of lives, the injuries, and the way this incident will change the lives those directly affected need to be the prime consideration for all of us who are hungry to know the details of this tragic event. I can assure you that I was not trying to infer anything of a political nature.

Is that a flag pole on the back of the truck?
Yes. That is going to become another big point. I've heard an "Isis" flag. But whatever, that's another point of why the FBI is involved.

Where was the reporting that the victims were mostly local?
The New Orleans police superintendent in her initial statement to the media this morning said that during her early interviews she learned that the majority of the victims 'appears' to be local to this area rather than visitors/tourists who may be in town for the playoff game.

Somebody's saying the truck was going 80. But that seems high for Bourbon. In any event, it crashed at high rate of speed and stopped right before Conti. There's video on X.

So now I have random -- and, of course, specific -- questions about the bollard system. How does it work? How is it maintained? Does NOLA keep up with the maintenance necessary for barricade systems that are designed to be raised and lowered as needed? Was this system being worked on being maintained/upgraded for the upcoming Super Bowl?

This happened right at Royal Sonesta, Rick's Cabaret area. Assuming he came from Canal, that's 3 blocks in.

If you zoom in, you can see it’s actually an F150 Lightning. Those trucks can get up to speed pretty quickly.

Yes and that is not a jacket.

The flag is just wrapped around

That letter you see, could very well be ISIS.

Internet sleuthing has already discovered this was a Ford EV 150 that was rented on Turo out of Houston.

I wonder why they haven’t released the guys identity yet.

It’s a shame they killed him (I mean, good riddance to bad rubbish), but I wish we could have learned his motive.

There is video of NOPD trying to revive him.
